Bradford Libraries celebrates Libraries Week 2020 (5-10 October)

Libraries Week

We’re delighted to give you a sneak preview of some of the exciting authors and events on offer during Libraries Week this year.  Our Libraries service are bringing together some of the best authors from a variety of different genres.  We will have something for everyone, from romance ravers, storytime supporters, poetry proponents to crime connoisseurs! 

As well as authors and events watch out for the little extras with your order and collect packages during the week.  We have quizzes, competitions, mystery books and winning Golden Tickets.

Enjoy a 30 minute online session with the popular ZooLab. You will see up to four animals such as snakes, reptiles and arachnids, find out about their habitats and behaviours and have a chance to ask the expert Ranger questions.

Join Gemma from Hoglets Theatre to explore a new version of this classic Greek myth. Through storytelling, drama and fun we will solve the mystery of what happened to Princess Persephone and why her disappearance resulted in the changing seasons.

Kate Fox works as a stand-up poet, broadcaster and speaker.  She has created two comedy series called ‘The Price of Happiness’ for Radio 4 about things she’s supposed to want but doesn’t and her current touring show “Where There’s Muck There’s Bras” about notable Northern women. She is a familiar radio voice, having presented Pick of the Week on Radio 4 and been a regular contributor to Radio 3’s The Verb, among many other broadcasts.

She has been Poet in Residence for the Great North Run, Glastonbury Festival and Radio 4’s Saturday Live. She has also performed her poetry on BBC1 and BBC2. She has supported acts including Linton Kwesi Johnson, Hollie McNish, John Cooper Clarke and John Hegley and is a headline act in her own right.

Storyteller extraordinaire John Kirk takes us on a Scavenger Hunt Storytelling session where a naughty monster has hidden the keys to the library!  Help John tell the story by finding household items around your own home!  Children will need means of drawing a picture and an adult or carer who is happy to help them turn the living room upside down in the name of a good story.

A.A.Dhand was raised in Bradford and spent his youth observing the city from behind the counter of a small convenience store. After qualifying as a pharmacist, he worked in London and travelled extensively before returning to Bradford to start his own business and begin writing.

This is what happened to Pandora on her wedding day, little did she know that she held the fate of the world in her hands.

Join Gemma from Hoglets Theatre to explore a new version of this classic Greek myth. Through storytelling, drama and fun we will follow Pandora's journey and find out what she unleashed upon the world.


Other exciting initiatives for Libraries Week

Order & Collect Mystery Read

Our Order & Collect service designed during the pandemic will receive a mysterious boost during Libraries Week.  The service allows customers to order by reserving from the Bradford Libraries online catalogue as well as by email or phone. Customers are then able to collect their book orders from libraries that are open at an agreed time slot.  During Libraries Week there will be an added element of mystery as you may receive an additional mystery book to read along with your order.  If you collect any books during Libraries Week on our special Order & Collect service we will add a mystery title to your order.  Who knows it might be the best book you’ve ever read!
