Autumn 2020
events
Our LIVE events with agents have been a great success
during lockdown. These are a great way to take part in the club from
your sofa. You will also receive the video of the event to watch back
at your leisure. Please join us. Members will be
invited to each event for free. For non-members, places are
limited, so please book in advance. The link (to all members and pre
paid tickets) to each event will be sent out on the day of the
event.
September 22:
Fiona Baird of WME Agency
The
company was founded in April 2009 after the merger of
the William Morris Agency and the Endeavor
Agency. Endeavor represents artists in movies, television,
music, theatre, digital media, and publishing. Fiona works in the
London office as a literary agent. Her most recent deal was a
book entitled If
Then: How One Data Company Invented the Future"hidden
history" of data science by Jill
Lepore, a New Yorker writer and two-time Pulitzer
Prize finalist to John Murray.
October 27:
Emily MacDonald of 42 Management and Production
Emily
MacDonald joined 42 in 2019, working with Eugenie Furniss across her
clients. She is also building her own list.
What she is looking for:
I'm looking for literary fiction with
a narrative that will pull me in, engulfing the reader, and keeping
you in the world well after you've finished reading. I'd also love to
find narrative non-fiction with an investigative twist and untold
true stories, either personal or historical.
I'd love to hear from Scottish and
regional voices with stories to tell.
November
24: Marina de Pass of The Soho Agency
Marina
loves upmarket commercial and book-club fiction in all its forms -
from police procedurals and twisty, domestic psychological suspense
to smart rom-coms and big, sweeping love stories - and is actively
looking to take on clients in this area.
She would love to read more thrillers with
claustrophobic settings, like the one in Lucy Foley's The Guest
List, and more love stories set in exotic, atmospheric or
transporting locations, like Catherine Issac's You Me
Everything.
Marina joined The Soho Agency in 2016, after working for
several years in the editorial departments of Little, Brown and
HarperCollins. She has a rare insight into the publishing industry -
in addition to her agenting work, she is also a published author, and
has studied creative writing at the Faber Academy.
