Here are a few ideas of things to do this weekend for my followers who live in or near to Leeds and New York:
WIN a shopping
spree, an almighty feast or a luxurious escape...
|
| |
|
|
|
As lockdown is eased, plans are being
put back in action – which means we've got another set of new
openings coming soon to Leeds. From the second venue from a Leeds
favourite to a boutique yoga studio in the suburbs, this is what you have
to look forward to in the coming months.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
From barbers to records stores, florists
to Korean barbecues, the Merrion Centre has an eclectic array of
independents and we're giving you the chance to win a £200 splurge at one
of them. Get your entries in!
|
|
|
Heaving roasts, handpicked wines and
freshly-made pizzas – there's so much more to Wellington Place than just
offices. And we're going to prove it by giving away £100 to spend at
Veeno, Mad Frans or Hoist House!
|
|
As life begins to return to normal, with
shops, bars and restaurants open, the crowds have dispersed, making a day
out in the countryside all the more attractive. Why not go for stroll
this weekend? Every walk on this list is within an hour of Leeds and packed
with stunning sights.
|
|
|
|
For the first time ever, the Leeds
Arts University Show has gone digital, so you can sift through the
work of 500 graduates at your leisure. From documentary-style photography
to background animation and creative advertising, this is an intriguing
look at the future of art and design.
|
|
|
After months cooped up at home, you can
finally start planning your next escape – and what better than a
luxurious city break? That's right, we're giving away a two-night stay
in the oh-so-swanky penthouse suite at The Chambers. From the
Jacuzzi bath to the private terrace, it's too good to miss.
|
|
Feeling adventurous? Go paddle
boarding.
|
|
|
The pubs have started to reopen, not
just here in the city, but out in the countryside to, so you can start
planning a visit to your favourite boozers. Whether you're going for a
leisurely lunch or a post-walk pint, these country pubs are back open and
ready to cater for your every need.
|
|
Ready to head back to the shops? The
experience is a little different now, especially as wearing a mask
is now compulsory, but you can still have a great time. And of course,
every shop has put measures in place to keep you safe.
|
|
|
Up for an adventure? You could hunt out
the lost summer house in the woods behind Waterloo Lake, explore one of
the finest small gardens in the country or admire the views from a
railway bridge that looks like castle.

This week the Orchestra
of Opera North played together for the
first time, in person, in over 17
weeks...
This
moment marks the first step on our
journey back towards live performances.
We are currently planning some exciting
projects and events for the Autumn,
which we hope to share with audiences
as more details on social distancing
guidelines are released.
Our
annual residency in Leeds' Millennium
Square, due to get under way today, has
been postponed until 2021. While the
spectacular sound of beautiful arias,
epic movie scores and euphoric anthems
won't be ringing out across the city
this weekend, we hope you'll join us in
looking back through highlights from
the past few years...

Relive

Party with Jimmy

Grab
some glow sticks and set up
your dancefloor at home to recreate
Jimmy Somerville's performance of
'Don't Leave Me This Way' at last
summer's 80s Classical.

Return of the
orchestra...
Playing
together for the first time since 15
March, our orchestra have been
adjusting to a new way of working, with
their new socially-distanced layout
spreading them out across the entire
floor of Leeds Town Hall.

Summer 2020 is not a write off,
the new Luna Cinema socially spacious outdoor season is here to
save your summer. They've got a line up of some of the country's
most beautiful venues and a programme packed with absolute classics
and critically acclaimed award winners.
Best of all, the entire thing is socially distanced as every
audience member will be given a "pitch" with seating laid
out for up to two or four people, keeping you safely apart from
your fellow audience members. They've worked tirelessly with Health
and Safety consultants to ensure the events can be given the stamp
of being "Covid-19 Secure" so you can attend any
Luna screening safe in the knowledge it will adhere to all
government guidance. Social distancing however does of course mean
that all capacities are lower than usual, so you will have to be
quick off the mark to bag your tickets.
The 2020 season will take in screenings at stunning venues
including the likes of Leeds Castle, Old Royal Naval College in
Greenwich, Lincoln Castle, Blenheim Palace, Dulwich Park, Hatfield
House and Chiswick House, to name a few. With a line up of recent
hits like Joker, Jojo Rabbit, Knives Out, Judy and Rocketman,
alongside some bona fide classics such as Grease, Back To The
Future and Pretty Woman.
Plus the Luna big screen will be taking up a residency this summer
at the Royal Hospital Chelsea as its Central London home for open
air cinema.
So after months of staying in, come out with us, and treat
yourself to an amazing socially distanced night out at the movies
this summer!

New Artwork
A
collection of colorful street photography is on display at the Tribeca
Gallery, showcasing urban life and authentic moments. Marko Stout's
exhibition will include looping imagery, sculpture, photography and other
media as an expression of NYC.
Most recently,
Marko was recognized for his revealing work titled, "Erotic
Allure".
All of which
played with time, depth and color to enhance already powerful images.

Tropical Slime
Katherine
Bernhardt's new slime products are inspired by tropical fruits, scents, and
colors. In a chance collaboration with the Sloomoo Institute, the slime
collection is now available in NYC.
The colorful and
handmade slimes are great for children and adults alike, thanks to the detail
put into each product. In conception, the slime scents and themes were
inspired by the '80s and important motifs in Katherine's youth. Learn more
about the products and Katherine's work in this interview featured on Cool Hunting.
