Idle Women Creating Spaces to Belong (banner image)

SUMMER NEWSLETTER

Adapting and belonging

We believe in transformation, drawing from our deepest roots to grow something powerfully hopeful.

Idle Women was founded to create spaces for women that can’t be cut, closed, or taken away.

For every woman to belong, we must work to systemically address barriers formed by design, division, oppression, and inequality.

In February, we began to shape shift to navigate a new unknown barrier; one that shines a brutal light on the things that already divide us. As the wash of emergency care now subsides, the consequences of long-term austerity and systematic inequality are painfully evident.

Together with our partners in the women’s sector, trade, horticulture, health, housing, arts and education, Idle Women are adapting to create new strategies for women to belong that are sustainable through the times ahead.

We are adapting our activities so that you can join in from home. Our programme will always be about spaces to belong; for this to happen, we would like to be able to reach you in new ways.

The first 100 new subscribers or existing subscribers to update their details with their postal address will receive two beautiful posters and two Love and Solidarity pickle recipe cards: one for you and one to pass on to a friend.

This is just the first in a series of postal projects, online activities, and those that take place on your mobile phone. And so – gently and powerfully – a network of belonging grows.

Idle Women in the news

“There’s something radically optimistic about Idle Women’s efforts to create work from the ground up.” – Augusta Pownall

There was a great write up about Idle Women in the Observer recently. It’s brilliant to have the work we do together celebrated.

Idle Women is an arts and social justice project that creates vibrant and adventurous spaces with and for, all women to belong.
