March News from Slung Low

Hello friends,
It's not slowing down here at Slung Low towers, we are maintaining the level of involvement all the way through March and have lots coming up to share with you.

We have Ian McMillan coming up this afternoon with his Big Ideas: On Sir Alec Clegg's book The
Excitement of Writing as part of the current Cultural Community College term. Sir Alec was the innovative Chief Education Officer of the Riding of West Yorkshire for 30 years from the end of the Second World War and was instrumental in the founding of Bretton Hall College – a hot house of Northern creative radicalism. You don’t need to know anything about Clegg or his book - come along and hear a brilliant Northern artist talk with passion about a work that made him the artist he is today. If you have yet to book your place then follow the link here to reserve your tickets.
We also have Adelle Stripe as part of the Big Ideas feature with her talk on Andrea Dunbar. Andrea Dunbar was the celebrated playwright from the Buttershaw estate in Bradford. She wrote The Arbor and Rita, Sue and Bob Too before dying aged 29. The event is on the 24th March and tickets can be acquired by clicking here
On Sunday 10th March we will have Script Club & Boundless Theatre presenting Drip, a one-man musical comedy by award-winning duo Tom Wells (words) and Matthew Robins (music). Liam is 15 and he’s just signed up for Bev Road Baths’ first ever synchronised swimming team. It’s for his best mate Caz really. She needs to get a team together to win the annual Project Prize at school. She tries every year. She always loses. But Liam’s an optimist, he’s determined to help. There’s just one problem. Liam can’t swim. If you would like more information then click here for details.

Coming on the 28th April is T'Other, by Beggars Belief Collective. In a town like ours but not quite now, and slightly off centre from here, Cass & Hillary go about their daily business until their lives are disturbed by the arrival of a curious, enigmatic & annoying stranger. A story of mistrust, intolerance, unexpected friendship, and ultimately, love, t’Other is chaotic in its form, warm in its heart and joyfully jaggedy in its anarchic style of storytelling. A fable for our time. Tickets are available here.

After two weeks of The Holbeck Choir, things are getting going with participation for T'Other being an exciting goal! As well as singing through a number of styles and arrangements, the choir get fed here at The Holbeck before every session, as we all know that singing is sweeter still with a bit of food thrown in! If you would like to become part of the Choir, or even just try it out for a bit, then you can sign up here and we will see you on Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm.

Come join us for a drink, with draught and real ale and say hi! As ever you can also keep in touch with us via Facebook and Twitter.
