Cleckheaton Writers Group meeting minutes 18 June 2018

As I was away celebrating my 25th wedding anniversary in Spain, I missed this meeting, but my fellow member Sarah (back from her travelling) has kindly shared the minutes from the 18th of June meeting:

CLECKHEATON WRITERS’ GROUP MINUTES                                                         18 JUNE 2018
In attendance: Mandy, Sarah & Kathy
Apologies: Karen, Pauline
The minutes from the last meeting were approved.
Updates:
Kathy has started a ‘silly’ crime story about a writer who is arrested for the crimes in their fiction.
Mandy is working on a poetry collection and has edited 18 poems so far – the collection has a theme of growing up by the sea in the 1970s; she is also very busy promoting her two books and answering questions from readers on her blog and from her blog tour.
Sarah has finished her novel and has sent it out to literary agents; she is now working on a new novel and has written around 25,000 words so far and is also editing a few flash fiction pieces she wrote while travelling.
Upcoming events:
Harrogate Crime Writing Festival & Bradford Literature Festival.
Competitions: Blue Pencil Agency First Novel prize has a deadline of 30 June and Ink Tears flash fiction competition closes at the end of July. Mandy will be the judge of the ‘I must be off’ travel writing competition which has a closing date in July.
Feedback slot:
Sarah read out a piece of flash fiction called ‘A Sepia-Tinted Memory’ and Kathy and Mandy gave feedback on sentences that were not clear.
The next meeting will be on Monday, 2 July.
