'Dark River' Opens in Cinemas This Friday, 23rd February


Dark River opens in UK cinemas this Friday, 23rd February 2018. The intense family drama, starring Ruth Wilson, Mark Stanley and Sean Bean, filmed against the backdrop of the Yorkshire Dales with investment from Screen Yorkshire's Yorkshire Content Fund. It is the third feature film from writer / director Clio Barnard, who grew up in Otley and studied in Leeds, before establishing herself as one of the UK’s most distinctive cinematic voices in recent years. New Trailer and Poster Released For Idris Elba's 'Yardie'



StudioCanal has released the very first trailer and poster for Yardie to coincide with the European premiere of Idris Elba's directorial debut at Berlinale 2018 in the Panorama section this week. Set in the 70's and adapted from Victor Headley’s cult novel, Yardie tells the story of a young man with Aml Ameen (The Maze Runner, The Butler) starring in the lead role as ‘D’ alongside Stephen Graham (This Is England, ‘Little Boy Blue’) and new Jamaican talent including Shantol Jackson. Screen Yorkshire teamed up with Sheffield's Warp Films to invest in Yardie, the feature film directorial debut of Golden Globe and SAG winner Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom). Keira Knightley and Matt Smith Confirmed for 'Official Secrets'



Two-time Oscar®-nominated Keira Knightley will star alongside Matt Smith in Official Secrets, which is set to commence filming in Yorkshire next month with investment from Screen Yorkshire. The spy thriller is based on the dramatic true story of British intelligence whistle-blower, Katharine Gun (Knightley), who during the immediate run-up to the 2003 Iraq invasion leaked a top-secret NSA memo exposing a joint US-UK illegal spying operation against members of the UN Security Council. eOne will oversee production and will finance the project with Screen Yorkshire and GS Media. Academy Award winning filmmaker Gavin Hood (Eye in the Sky, Tsotsi) will direct the gripping thriller and penned the script. More



Production Commences on Black Comedy 'Ilkley'



Screen Yorkshire is pleased to announce its investment in Ilkley following Independent’s casting announcement at this week’s European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin. Roger Allam (The Lady In The Van, The Thick of It) Derek Jacobi (Tolkein, Cinderella), Anna Maxwell-Martin (Philomena, Becoming Jane) and Harry Melling (The Lost City of Z, Harry Potter Series) will star in the black comedy, which follows the world’s most controversial secularist to Ilkley's annual Literary Festival and two hapless evangelicals tasked with killing him. Ilkley is writer / director Harry Michell’s follow up to debut feature Chubby Funny, which received critical acclaim after a successful run on the festival circuit and earned him a BIFA nomination for Most Promising Newcomer. Filming commenced this month in Yorkshire. More



Leeds to Host First Creative Cities Convention: 25 - 26 April



The inaugural Creative Cities Convention will  take place at Leeds College of Music this April, hosted by Journalist and Broadcaster Kirsty Wark. The national event is a joint collaboration between the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Pact, a real statement of intent at a time of great change for anyone working in the business of digital content creation across the UK. The convention will celebrate the richness and diversity of talent and the growth of global production across the UK, consider how the Government’s new industrial strategy can benefit the creative industries outside London and reflect on the discussions about Channel 4 increasing its contribution to the nations and regions.
