World ATP championship final, O2, London 22 November 2015
Apologies to my followers for not blogging yesterday but my husband and I were lucky enough to get tickets to the ATP tennis finals in London and it took us all day to travel down there, attend and then travel back. It was so very worth it though.
First we looked around the exhibition stands and bought some official merchandise (I am proudly wearing my t-shirt today) before going into the auditorium. First up was the men's doubles final with 2nd Seeds Jean-Julien Roger of the Netherlands and Horia Tecau of Romania versus 8th Seeds Rohan Bopanna of India and Florin Mergea of the Netherlands which finished as Jean-Julien and Horia as victors 6/4 6/3.
In the break between matches there was an appreciation of former champions event with legends Stanley Smith of America who played in the first ATP in Tokyo, Ilie Nastase from Romania and Spaniard Manuel Oriantes.
Then it was time for the main event top seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia versus 3rd seed Roger Federer of Switzerland. The match between them was a stunning display of tennis skill, including serves above 120 mph and some long rallys. In the end, Novak triumphed with a 6/3 6/4 win.
