Weekly news update - Friday, 24 JulyLive at the Courtyard support acts announced This summer Pulled Apart By Horses, Lucy Spraggan and The Hoosiers will be performing in the outdoor Courtyard of Bradford city centre’s Darley Street Market as part of a new live music festival ‘Live at the Courtyard’, and we’re excited to announce the artists who will be supporting them. On Friday 14 August, Meryl Streek will be supporting Leeds-Bradford band Pulled Apart by Horses. Fast rising and exciting punk producer Meryl Streek has released his brand new album 'Songs for the Deceased' cited by Metal Hammer as one of the ten best punk albums of the last decade. On Saturday 15 August, singer songwriter Lucy Spraggan will be supported by Lucy Robinson, an alt-acoustic-pop act from Northern Ireland, one of the UK's most exciting independent artists, earning praise for her unique blend of dreamy pop, soulful vocals, gritty rock influences, and quick-witted, emotionally honest songwriting. On Sunday 16 August The Hoosiers will be supported by Marie Franc. Marie Franc are a dark-pop five-piece crafting songs that feel at once raw and romantic, pairing visceral lyricism with a nostalgic, ethereal haze. Waste carrier pays after fly tipping at local beauty spot A waste carrier has paid a £1,000 Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) after illegally depositing a large quantity of waste at one of Bradford district's most iconic beauty spots. In May 2025, our Environmental Enforcement Team was alerted to a substantial fly tip in the car park at Penistone Hill Country Park, Haworth – a popular destination overlooking the Worth Valley and renowned for its close association with the Brontë sisters. The dumped waste included household and commercial items such as furniture, timber, doors, cardboard, black bags and general refuse, leaving a significant eyesore in an area enjoyed by thousands of residents and visitors each year. Following a detailed investigation and interview the individual accepted the offer of a £1,000 Fixed Penalty Notice, which has now been paid in full, bringing the matter to a conclusion without the need for court proceedings. Help celebrate Love Parks WeekWith a packed programme of summer events and Green Flag-winning parks, there is plenty to celebrate for Love Parks Week (24 July to 2 August). Love Parks Week is a Keep Britain Tidy campaign to highlight the importance of parks for wellbeing, the environment and bringing communities together. A packed summer of events in the District’s parks gives people another reason to visit them and enjoy the spaces they provide. Highlights include: - Shakespeare in the Park at 1.30pm and 6.30pm on 25, 26 July and 1 August, at Central Park in Haworth, Cliffe Castle Museum & Park in Keighley and Roberts Park in Saltaire. Free summer fun is coming to Myrtle Park and Idle Recreation Ground next week Bring the children along for a day of free activities including sports, inflatables, dance, arts and crafts, and adventure play. Shipley's sheep sculptures are named The flock of seven stone sheep sculptures, which were installed in Shipley’s Well Croft earlier this year, have now been given names by local school children. Referencing the name ‘Shipley’ which is derived from the Old English meaning for ‘sheep pasture,’ the installation also included planting a mixed shrub and herbaceous bed, with a wildflower grass meadow. As a result, landline telephone providers are upgrading the old technology to modern digital services. It is especially important to speak the telecoms provider if you are a telecare user, would need help setting up new equipment for the digital switchover or are unable to reliably use a mobile phone in a power cut, (this might mean that you have no or unreliable mobile signal) or have a medical condition that would mean you cannot use a mobile phone. If you support someone who is unable to speak to their telecom provider independently, please do this with them or on their behalf to ensure they receive the support they need” People who rely on telecare alarms will require special support to make sure their alarms keep working through the switchover.
