June has brought long days, warm evenings and plenty of activity across Glen Tanar. While the estate team has been busy hosting weddings and welcoming guests to a school ball in our ballroom, nature has provided its own highlights. We were thrilled to discover not one, but two healthy Golden Eagle chicks in our eyrie this year - a special sight and a promising season ahead, with more photographs below. It has also been a month of celebration, with our Co-Director Claire Bruce receiving her MBE and the winner of Visit Aberdeenshire's Northern Nights campaign enjoying a stay on the estate, including a memorable session in our wildlife lookout. As summer settles over the glens, June reminds us of everything that makes life on a Scottish estate so rewarding: thriving wildlife, special occasions, and the privilege of sharing both with our visitors.
We were delighted to welcome Ellie and her mumthe winners of our Visit Aberdeenshire Northern Nights competition, to Glen Tanar in June. They enjoyed a wonderful three-night stay in our newest self-catering accommodation, Joiner's Cottage, and also took part in one of our popular lookout sessions during their visit where some of our lovely pine martens came out to give them a proper Glen Tanar welcome.  A huge thank you to everyone who entered the competition. If you would like to experience a stay in Joiners Cottage for yourself, please click the link below to check availability and start planning your Glen Tanar escape.

A huge thank you to Bill Mumford for this incredible photograph of our Golden Eagle chicks being fed. His stunning image captures a truly special moment in the lives of these magnificent birds and showcases the beauty of Glen Tanar's wildlife. Our Golden Eagle photography sessions are always in high demand and places for 2027 will be very limited. If you would like to be notified about future eagle sessions or any of our other wildlife photography experiences, please register your interest by emailing info@glentanar.co.uk or calling 01339 886 451.
As many of you may have read in a previous newsletter, our Co-Director, Claire Bruce, was awarded an MBE for services to tourism in the North East of Scotland in the King's New Year Honours List. Earlier in the month, Claire attended the investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle, where she received her MBE from HRH The Princess Royal, Princess Anne. It is wonderful to see Claire's dedication, leadership and long-standing contribution to tourism recognised in this way. Over many years, she has played a significant role in helping Glen Tanar and the wider region become a destination enjoyed by visitors from across the UK and beyond.

Save the date for our Autumn Wedding Open Day on Sunday 11th October, from 11am–3pm in the Glen Tanar Ballroom. Keep your eyes peeled and follow us on our social channels over the coming weeks as we introduce everyone joining us and share details of how to book your place. We can't wait to welcome you.
Following the polls on our social media channels, we're delighted to introduce the newest member of the Glen Tanar family by his official name - Brodee. A fitting choice that reflects both his impressive presence and our home here in Royal Deeside. Thank you to everyone who cast a vote, we think the name suits our big, gentle boy perfectly, and we wish him every happiness as he settles into his new surroundings.
The Glen Tanar Trail Running Festival returns later this month (25th & 26th July), bringing together runners of all abilities to experience the beauty of the estate on a series of unforgettable routes through ancient Caledonian pine forest, heather-clad hills and scenic glens. Whether you're taking on a personal challenge or simply soaking up the atmosphere, it's a wonderful weekend celebrating the great outdoors in one of Scotland's most spectacular landscapes.  Entries are still open, click on the box below for further details...

Weekly Escape

Hey

After the recent heatwave, I think it's safe to say that summer has finally arrived.

And while Yorkshire has no shortage of incredible places to explore, there's something special about wandering through a beautiful garden on a warm summer's day. No rushing. No crowds. Just colourful flowers, buzzing bees and a chance to slow down for a couple of hours.

That's exactly how I felt when I visited Breezy Knees Gardens, just outside York.

I'd seen photos beforehand, but nothing quite prepared me for just how spectacular it is. Every corner seems to reveal another themed garden, another burst of colour or another peaceful place to stop and simply enjoy the moment.

I completely lost track of time wandering through the wildflower meadow, admiring the clever "Stonehedge" topiary, and walking the stunning Double Border, which quickly became my favourite part of the whole garden. It honestly felt like strolling through a living painting.

There are plenty of little details to discover too, from Yorkshire-themed features to humorous signs tucked away amongst the flowers, and when your legs need a rest there's a lovely café waiting with coffee, cakes and afternoon tea.

It's the sort of place that reminds you that some of Yorkshire's best days out aren't always the famous ones.

If you're looking for somewhere peaceful to enjoy while everything is in full bloom, I've put together a complete guide covering everything you need to know before you visit, including my favourite spots, practical tips and the highlights you won't want to miss.

I have a feeling this one might become one of your favourite summer discoveries too.

Until our next adventure,

P.S. 🌼 If your garden is looking a little worse for wear after the hot weather, don't worry...you can always go and admire someone else's instead! Trust me, the colours at Breezy Knees Gardens are worth the trip.

A young woman wants to see the sea.
A stranger stands on a cliff.
The last grey seal swims towards the shore.

On her eighteenth birthday, Cerys, a tough care-leaver, breaks the city’s lockdown and travels to the coastal cliffs that birthed her, the crumbling landscape drawing her back to her mythic past.

Evocative and lyrical spoken word storytelling that draws inspiration from the traditional Selkie myth and reimagining it for a not-too-distant future.

A haunting interweaving of story, music, poetry and song, with a rich backdrop of harmonies.
