Read Kirklees From Home: May 8 - 14. 2020

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of Read Kirklees From Home. Not that you need to be at home to read it but that's where we're putting these newsletters together.

For this edition we're focussing on a unique project that Kirklees Libraries are involved in. Tickets for the Afterlife is a national Carnegie funded project promoting conversations about death, dying and grief. With the Covid-19 crisis this topic seems more relevant than ever.

Working alongside Newcastle Libraries and Redbridge Libraries, we are promoting and supporting Dying Matters Awareness Week (May 11 - 17) along with co-hosting the Tickets for the Afterlife events detailed below. The aim of the project aim is to support meaningful discussions and promote relevant and useful resources around this most sensitive of topics.
There's also the first podcast from our Transcription Service, VE Day happenings in Kirklees and 'Something for the Weekend'. As ever, underlined text in blue are links to web pages so click or select to go to that page. Read, enjoy, keep in touch and stay safe.

Kirklees Town Halls
Opera North at home
A satire on the American Dream, Trouble in Tahiti is set in 1950s suburbia, where Sam and Dinah appear to have the perfect life. But their growing detachment exposes a mutual feeling that they are trapped in a life that has turned into a lie...

On Wednesday 6 May at 7pm, we'll be streaming our 2017 production of Bernstein's one-act opera on YouTube. YOU'RE invited - make sure you say 'hello' on the live chat! The stream is free to watch, although we invite you to pay as you feel to help support the work of Opera North. Watch showpiece number, 'Island Magic', for a taste of what to expect. If you enjoy the Hollywood pizzazz and jazzy scores, why not join us later this year as the production features as part of our Bernstein Double Bill?
