Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2020)
Toni
Booth – Associate Curator of Film
An astounding piece of film
making from Céline Sciamma. It is radical, romantic, elegant,
dramatic and rooted in the reality of women’s lives in the 18th
century. Released in February, this is one of the most
acclaimed films of the year so far and is already available for
you to stream at home.

Free Solo (2019)
Vicky
Clifton – Head of Learning
Documentary following Alex
Honnold as he prepares to climb the 3,200-foot El Capitan in
Yosemite National Park without ropes. Even for non-climbing
enthusiasts this is an absolutely gripping film with some real
heart stopping moments. The film was screened in our IMAX last
year and is a cinematic experience not to be missed.

Yesterday, Today &
Tomorrow
(1963)
Gin
Jacobucci – Volunteer Coordinator
This genuinely fun comedy
follows three couples across different parts of Italy. Winning
the Academy Away for Best Foreign Language Film in 1965, the
film features lots of sunny shots to brighten up a gloomy day
and an iconic performance from Sofia Loren.

The Damned United (2009)
Phil
Oates – Communications Manager
The story of Brian Clough's
infamous 44-day stint as manager of Leeds United in 1974. Some
of the filming for this Yorkshire-based film took place just
opposite our cinema and museum, in the former police station
which stood on the edge of City Park.

What's
up New York,
We're expecting a
gorgeous sunny day today tomorrow but that doesn't mean social distancing is
over! ☀️
There are still delicious
eateries firing up their kitchens and getting New Yorkers mouth-watering
food. 🍕🍔🍽
Diya
Vij is calling for aid accessibility in NYC and public outreach. 🎨🗣
Chris
Swiesz is one of many brave upstate New York State residents traveling
to help our hospitals. 🏥🚊
"At night...
the streets become rhythmical perspectives of glowing dotted lines,
reflections hung upon them in the streets as the wistaria hangs its violet
racemes on its trellis. The buildings are shimmering verticality, a gossamer
veil, a festive scene-prop hanging there against the black sky to dazzle,
entertain, amaze." — Frank Lloyd Wright on NYC

Creating a Network
The
Meet the NYC Art Community series focused on Diya Vij during their third
installment. As Associate Curator of Public Programs at the High Line, Vij
currently hopes to nurture “the health and well-being of individuals, the
city, and the planet through art-centered and civically oriented happenings,
on and off the High Line.”
Through the
organization of events including talks, workshops, and more, Vij is a driving
force of inspiration in the NYC art community now more than ever.

Quarantine Eats
Even
though the quarantine has really hit the NYC restaurant scene hard, the New
York resilience and perseverance continue to show itself.
In an effort to
remain operational while still catering to their customers, there are a
number of eateries who still have their kitchens fired up and deliver their
restaurant-quality food to quarantined New Yorkers.
Here are some
spots that you can treat yourself to a fantastic meal (and more) without
having to leave your home.

Helping Hands
Chris
Swiesz, an Adirondack resident, has now made a home out of NYC and our
hospitals in order to assist doctors.
Swiesz is one of
many nurses that traveled from the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in
Plattsburgh in upstate New York. Originally located near the Canadian border,
the trip down to the city was done in faith and a real desire to help fight
COVID-19.

Food Delivery Discord
Restaurants
need to pay delivery and kitchen staff although dine-in options are closed in
the city, meaning they're taking in less than ever before. Delivery apps like
Seamless and Uber Eats, meant to increase sales for eateries, are taking a
big bite out of profits.
As restaurants are
still forced to pay rent, the mounting financial pressures have some owners
feeling unsure about the future of their establishment under social
distancing circumstances.
