Alan Bennett to Open Ilkley Literature Festival 2017



Alan Bennett will open the 2017 Ilkley Literature Festival with a special afternoon event on Friday 29 September. The playwright, screenwriter, actor and author returns to the Festival for the first time since 2009 and when he will be talking about his most recent collection of diaries and essays, Keeping on Keeping On.

Festival Director Rachel Feldberg said, ‘We're thrilled that Alan is opening the Festival this year. He is one of Britain’s greatest and best known writers and it is a real honour to be welcoming him back to Ilkley.’

The full Festival programme will be announced on Thursday 17 August with tickets going on general sale on Tuesday 29 August.

You have until Tuesday 1 August to get your entries in for this year's Poetry and Short Story Writing Competitions.
The judges are Daljit Nagra (Poetry) and Natasha Pulley (Short Story) and you could win up to £200 on prizes plus the chance to read your work  at Ilkley Literature Festival in October.
 

Words in the City | Bradford

Don't forget we will be in Bradford on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July for a weekend of FREE poetry and family fun with Words in the City, as part of Bradford Festival.
Go wild with animal-themed poetry activities, enjoy a magical new show - Owl Babies - from the team behind Revolting Rhymes and be inspired by a performance from Bradford Young Writers.

Sense of Line: Currator Talk

Sense of Line is an exhibition of drawings by artist, poet and documentary film-maker Imtiaz Dharker. This one-person show of drawings, often incorporating poems, excavates contested physical and mental landscapes through explorations of feminism, terrorism, tyranny and oppression.
Dr Nima Poovaya-Smith (Senior Visiting Research Fellow in the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies), along with some of the five MA students who were co-producers of the show, will talk about award-winning poet and artist Imtiaz Dharker’s work and how word and image are intimately linked in her practice.
The tour is expected to last for an hour, followed by light refreshments.
