Cardboard Joe @ Seven
All week, creators
of innovative children's theatre,154 Collective, are working at
Seven on the finals stages of their new work for children, Cardboard Joe and the Book
of Mysteries to be shown on Saturday 10 September, 2.30pm.
With animator, musician and storyteller, this is a show that you
control. Together Joe and the audience decides what happens in this
mega-new, mega-awesome adventure. A family adventure for children
aged 3-93. £7
adult/ £5 child. Cardboard Joe has
been commissioned by the Small Venues Network, a group of 11 small
venues and theatres based in the North of England.
Next week, Seven begins its autumn season, kicking off on Monday 12 September, 8pm,
with the Screen seven showing of Suffragette. The
life of Maud, working wife and mother, is forever changed when she is
secretly recruited to join the UK’s growing suffragette movement.
Galvanized by Emmeline Pankhurst, Maud becomes an activist for the
cause alongside women from all walks of life who engage in a
dangerous game of cat-and-mouse with the authorities. Stars Carey
Mulligan, Anne-Marie Duff, Helena Bonham Carter. £6 / £5 conc.
On Tuesday
13 September, 8pm, Café Scientifique
examines Human Relationships and Technology, introduced by Dr
Kathleen Richardson. In our digitally connected society, ever more of
your ‘friends’ and ‘followers’ are now bots (internet robots). Real
robots are set to become your friends and even your sexual partners –
what does this mean for our sense of being human? Hat Donations.
It's Seven Live – Chapel
Allerton’s #1 Music Night on Wednesday 14 September, 8pm.
A mouth watering mix of great live music : infectious, ukulele
driven punked-up originals from Speed Dinosaurs; progressive,
folk-tinged and highly nuanced original songs from The Silver Reserve;
Ros Lewis with Michael Baum on piano; and Gemma Irving presents new
original material, as well as some classic folk covers. £6 otd.
On Friday 16
September 8pm, Mewl Music presents the fabulous Dudley Nesbitt - A
Journey Through Calypso. Dudley showcases his talent (and
passion) for the music of the steel pan, taking us on a musical journey
tracing the history and development of this fascinating art form,
weaved through some classic calypso tunes. £8 adv /£10 otd.
Rounding off the week on Saturday
17 September, 8.30pm, look forward to Laurel Canyon Union
and Jester B. Laurel Canyon Union takes inspiration
from the 70’s American West Coast singer-songwriter era, Jackson
Browne, Neil Young, Eagles and James Taylor. Jester B is a duo,
replicating acoustic guitar based songs with vocal harmonies
including contemporary folk, Americana and classics
from Simon and Garfunkel and the Everly Brothers. £8 adv / £10 otd. Doors
8pm.
