English PEN welcomes Mexican writers to the Literary Salon

The 2015 London Book Fair is underway at Olympia, and the market focus this year is Mexico. English PEN is proud to once again collaborate with the British Council, curators of the Market Focus Cultural Programme, to give a platform to some of Mexico's most important writers.
This morning, the celebrated author Elena Poniatowska, winner of the Cervantes Prize, began her conversation with Daily Telegraph journalist Gaby Wood by giving a moving reading of the names of the 43 Mexican students who were abducted by police in September and handed over to a notorious drug trafficking gang (for more on this shocking story, read Amanda Hopkinson's dispatch for the PEN Atlas, posted in January).
Other writers speaking at the salon include Jorge Volpi, Valeria Luselli, Juan Villoro and Carmen Bollusa. The full English PEN Literary Salon programme may be viewed here. All author conversations will be available to view on our YouTube channel later in the spring, and you can follow the discussions via the #PENLitSalon hashtag on Twitter.

Rosewater + Q&A: 19 April

There are still some tickets remaining for a unique screening of Jon Stewart's debut directorial feature film, Rosewater, at the Tricylce Theatre in London. Starring Gael Garcia Bernal, the film is based on the memoir of the Iranian journalist Maziar Bahari, who was detained and tortured by the Iranian security services in 2009 while he was covering the elections in that country.
Proceeds from the screening will go support the work of English PEN. Following the screening, Maziar Bahari will participate in a Q&A session with Lindsey Hilsum, International Editor at Channel 4 news, who features in the film.
The screening will take place at 3pm on Sunday 19 April. Tickets are available from the Tricycle Theatre Box Office.

In partnership with London Book and Screen Week, supported by the Canadian High Commission
