Fangfest 2014

This weekend was the 15th Fangfoss Festival of the Practical Arts and our family went today.  What a lovely time we had in the sunshine trying out new activities and looking at beautiful arts.

Fangfest Pottery had demonstrations of pottery techniques and raku firings with guest ceramicist Penny De Court demonstrating sculptural ceramics.  You could have a go on the wheel and make and paint your own pot.  (01759 368384)

The Carpenters Arms had live music from Just Friends and Northern Rock.  (01759 369745)

Harry Postill Furniture had a showroom and workshops open to view, including a clearance sale.  (01759 368209)

Swirlz ice cream parlour swirlz@btinternet.com (07881 525054)

Classic cars display featuring cars, lorries and tractors.  (01759 368544)

The Rocking Horse Shop where you could view the horses on display and plans for woodworkers of all abilities, have a go at making a Rocking Horse, see master carver Sam Glass demonstrate Rocking Horse carving, gessoing, painting and restoration techniques.  (01759 368737)

Kids activities (including plate smashing), a Flower Festival and make your own corn art.

You could also have a go at Clay Shooting (where it turns out I am a good shot!) and Archery, or visit the Craft Marquee where there were stalls featuring Jam & Chutney, Corn Dollies, Handicrafts, Jewellery, Stained Glass, Woodwork and walking sticks amongst other things.

Various crafts on show included a chainsaw carver, artist, woodturning demonstrations, sixpenny bobbins, spinning and weaving, candle making and willow weaving.

We also tried our hand at pottery making and painting, with varying degrees of success, corn weaving and woodturning.

I can definitely recommend the Festival as we had a fantastic day and are looking forward to attending next year on the first weekend of September.
