The Love Punch film review
Went to see this movie at the Senior Screen Leeds/Bradford Odeon with my friend B yesterday.
IMDB says: A divorced couple scheme to recover the retirement money that was stolen from them.
From writer and director Joel Hopkins, The Love Punch stars Pierce Brosnan (Mama Mia!, The World's End) as Richard and Emma Thompson (Nanny McPhee, Love Actually) as Kate, the divorced couple and Timothy Spall (Harry Potter, The Damned United) as Jerry and Celia Imrie (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Bridget Jones) as Penelope, their married friends who help them in their scheme to kidnap four rich Texans to con their way into a wedding and steal a diamond from the bride.
The bride, Manon, is played by Louise Bourgoin (A Happy Event, Petit Nicolas) and her new husband and corporate evil-doer Tim played by Tom Morton (The Merry Widow, The Devils Hand) and having enlisted the hacking skills of son Matt to get close to them, first they infiltrate the hen party with hilarious consequences.
You have to suspend belief with this movie, but it is a comedy in the vein of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Nanny McPhee, and if you can do this, then it is a very enjoyable little movie with pleasing chemistry between the leads and a warming camaraderie between the four friends.
Tagline: You can't pinch a diamond without stealing a few hearts. 6/10
