Stanza Stones Event 19 May 2012

Yesterday evening I attended this event at Oxenhope as part of the Ilkley Literature Festival.  The Stanza Stones poems by Simon Armitage feature on the Poetry Trail from Mardsden to Ilkley, etched onto stones by Lettercarver Pip Hall, Landscape Architect Tom Lonsdale and Apprentice Wayne Hart.  This project also included six groups of writers from across Yorkshire: Calderdale Young Writers, Ilkley Young Writers, Leeds Young Authors, Sheffield Young Writers, Tadeeb International New Writers based in Bradford and the Writing Squad.  To celebrate the opening of the Trail, the young writers passed their poems over to young dancers from: Northern School of Contemporary Dance, RJC Dance, North Yorkshire (Youth) Dance, students from Longley School, working with Manasamitra and young film makers from Leeds College of Art and Media Fish (part of Leeds Young Film) who all fetaured on the night with microphones powered by bicycles.  This resulted in a bracing evening of dance pieces, short films and poetry readings which was thoroughly enjoyable.

The Stanza Stones Trail has a guide which includes Short Family Walks (The Snow Stone at Pule Hill in Marsden, The Rain Stone at Cow's Mouth Quarry, The Mist Stone at Nab Hill near Oxenhope, The Dew Stones at Rivock Edge, The Puddle Stones at Rombalds Moor and The Beck Stone on Ilkley Moor), The Full Trail in three legs and The Full Trail in one go and useful OS Maps.  See www.ilkley literaturefestival.org.uk or www.facebook.com/ilkleyliteraturefestival or @ilkleylitfest #stanzastones

To give you a feel of the evening I have added some of the photographs I took on the night:
