Cleckheaton Writers Group (CWG) and new writing competitions

Yesterday I had my photo taken, along with two of our CWG members, for the article on Cleckheaton which will feature in the July edition of the Yorkshire Life (on sale end of June).  It took longer than I had imagined but was quite fun pretending to have a meeting on a picnic blanket on the grass outside the library.  That evening at the meeting, one of our members gave an excellent appraisal of the Writing and Devising Masterclass at West Yorkshire Playhouse she attended last Friday.  We also discussed some other writing events that are coming up and it has been decided that we will attend the Andy McNab (best-selling thriller author) talk at Huddersfield Town Hall on Monday 11 June at 7.30pm.

We also decided that she and I will attend the New Blood authors event at Hebden Bridge on Monday 2 July at 7pm.

I also informed members of a programme of events at the Manchester Children's Book Festival 28 June - 8 July 2012.  Of particular interest are Carol Ann Duffy, Phillip Pullman, Michael Rosen and Jacqueline Wilson.  To view details of this event see www.mcbf.org.uk

I have also been sent an email informing me of a new romance short story competition, details below:

Boroughs Opens Its First
Romance Short Story Contest:
@ FIRST SIGHT
In one blink of an eye, you’re hooked.

Looking to get noticed? Boroughs is offering a great opportunity for you to show off, whether you’re published or unpublished, whether you’re a first-time author or have a trunk full of novels under your bed. Short fiction is the simplest of all art forms—and the trickiest. With a limited amount of space to show us your world, your characters, their conflict…and then prove why they just have to be together, you have to be smart, be sexy, be different. And it has to happen in the blink of an eye.

Think you can succeed? We know you can.
