1 Week to Go - Things You Need to Know

The excitement's building!
In just a week's time Whitby Lit Fest will be underway! In order to help you make the most of your time at the festival we've put together some useful visitor information. Please read it.
And then keep scrolling for a preview of our wonderful printed programme!
Festival HQ The Festival HQ is located in Hetty & Betty, 7 Baxtergate. Here you will find helpful Festival Makers (stewards) who will be able to help you with any questions you might have.
Parking Please use designated pay and display or on street parking. Please ensure you check for any restrictions or charges each time you park.
First Aid If you begin to feel unwell at any point please speak to a member of staff or a Festival Maker and we will do our best to assist you.
Tickets Please have your tickets ready to show when you arrive at a venue. Either a printed copy or a digital copy on your phone will suffice. Ticket scanning will be in operation.
Taxis There is a taxi rank on the harbour-side. To hire a taxi please try • Abbey Taxis on 01947 606666 or • White Rose Taxis on 01947 604604.
Venues Please familiarise yourself with the location of each venue ahead of the events you’re planning to attend. This will help you avoid any last-minute rush. We are thankful for the use of so many wonderful venues around Whitby, please help us maintain good relationships by treating venue staff and facilities with respect.
Festival Makers Please look out for our Festival Makers (volunteer stewards) at each of the venues. They’ll be in bright yellow jackets. They are here to help.
Public Transport The bus station is in the centre of town, providing regular connections to Scarborough and Middlesbrough.
Book Signings Several events will include a book signing or Q&A session at the end. Please listen out for instructions as how these work will vary by venue and author.
Noise & Litter Some venues are situated in or near to residential areas, so we would ask that you be mindful of residents when leaving venues, especially in the evening. Take your litter with you, or use bins at the venues or around town.
Local Shops, Restaurants & Attractions Whitby is a wonderful place to visit, packed with interesting independent businesses. We hope you’ll enjoy your time here and make the most of your time in our town by getting some Christmas shopping done, enjoying a delicious meal or a coffee in one of our fabulous cafes.
Beach Safety We know it’s November, but Whitby’s wonderful beaches are always worth a visit. Be careful to check the tide times so you don’t get cut off!
