Bradford 2025:

Built By Sound

Built by Sound - No Ghost, Dialled In and Bradford 2025

A mixed reality experience where memory moves to a beat. History, remixed: take an immersive trip through British South Asian youth culture in the ’70s and ’80s.

Date: 21 Nov - 14 Dec 2025 | Time: Various times – see link. Experience lasts up to 60 minutes | Location: Loading Bay | Tickets: From £10 ↓ | Ages: 14+

Built by Sound is a mixed-reality experience exploring how British South Asian communities in the 1970s and ’80s found joy in defiance, in community and in music – from the thump of dhol drums in community halls to pirate radio buzzing through bedroom walls.

This immersive experience uses archival footage, personal testimonies and a stirring  soundtrack to recreate a momentous era for South Asian communities in the UK – and particularly in Bradford. It takes us back to a time when young South Asians carved out new space in society, soundtracked their resistance against oppression, and stood up to the fascist rhetoric of the National Front – not in silence but in celebration.

Whether you lived it, or it’s the first time you’re hearing it – this is your invitation in. A story of resistance through rhythm, told in a way that feels close, urgent, and alive. Come for the bass. Stay for the truth.

We Are Still ASAFO

We Are Still ASAFO - Theatre In Flow

A theatre performance with live music and dance, that reminds us we are never truly alone. Come with us, as we cross oceans and generations, and call on the wisdom of our ancestors to help unearth our ASAFO (warrior) spirit.

Date: 7-9 Nov 2025 | Times: 7.30pm, 2.30pm | Location: Loading Bay | Tickets: £12

We Are Still ASAFO is a tribute to those who came before us – and a reminder that their voices still echo in the present. Drawing on West African, Caribbean, and diasporic narratives, it speaks to our roots and our futures, to resilience in places where we are too often made to feel unwelcome.

As they navigate grief and upheaval, they are guided by ancestral voices that refuse to be silenced – voices that carry memory, courage, and direction through turbulent times.

Blending dance, theatre, and music, We Are Still ASAFO explores what holds us together, rather than what tears us apart. It is about finding connection across oceans and generations, about community as resistance, and about hope as an inheritance we carry forward.

Weekly Escape

Hey

If you’re looking for something a little different to do this October – something beautiful, uplifting and completely atmospheric – I highly recommend heading over to East Riddlesden Hall’s Diwali celebration. ✨

I visited this event last year knowing very little about Diwali, and it ended up being one of my most memorable evenings of the season.

The 17th-century manor is transformed after dark with glowing Diya lamps, candle-lit pathways, and vibrant handmade decorations. It's not just a beautiful spectacle, it’s also a thoughtful celebration of the festival's traditions, stories, and meaning, all shared by the local communities of Keighley and Bradford.

This year’s event includes tales and traditions from Tamil, Punjabi, Bengali and Gujarati cultures, each one a moving reminder of the festival’s message of light triumphing over darkness.

It’s open during the day too, but I highly recommend going for one of the evening sessions if you can – the atmosphere is just incredible.

šŸ“ East Riddlesden Hall, Keighley
šŸ•Æ️ Evening sessions: 15th, 17th, 18th & 22nd October (5pm–8pm)
šŸŽŸ️ No pre-booking needed – just turn up! (Normal admission fees apply)

It’s such a brilliant way to experience a beloved Yorkshire spot in a whole new light (literally!) – whether you’ve celebrated Diwali before or are completely new to it like I was.

šŸ‘‰ Planning a trip? You’ll find everything you need to know about visiting East Riddlesden Hall – including opening times, highlights, and seasonal tips – in my full guide here.

Let me know if you decide to go – I’d love to hear what you think! šŸ’›

Until our next adventure,

This Sunday sees The Clay Mill present the very first 'Clay at the Cut', a brand new festival of ceramics and pottery at the North of England Centre for Music and Arts in the beautiful Colne Valley. With stalls from independent ceramic artists, family-friendly activities, live music, and local artisan food, there will be something for everyone.

If you work in the creative industries or have aspirations to follow a creative career, then you don’t want to miss Wilson Republic’s 10th Birthday event - the theme is ROUTES and will explore the pivots, twists and turns that shape creative careers. A private afterparty offers an evening packed with live music and performers brought to you by Kirklees Most Wanted.

And don’t miss the magic of the Andpiano concerts coming up over the 24-26 October weekend when you can enjoy three unforgettable evenings of music, storytelling, and soul-stirring performances.
