Christopher Marlowe, poet, playwright and spy, died in May 1593 - but what if he didn’t?

Everyone knows that Christopher Marlowe, poet, playwright and spy, was stabbed in a tavern brawl in Deptford and died in May 1593 - but what if he didn’t?

Peter B Hodges’ witty literate mystery implicates Queen Elizabeth’s spy-masters in a disappearance. This might have been the end of the story but Marlowe continued to write and needed an alias. In Richard Field’s Print shop Shaxper arrives looking for work and the plot thickens.

On the Night of Errors, the spy masters attempt to switch Shaxper for Marlowe, but the plan fails and Marlowe escapes again leaving Shaxper exposed.

Their rivalry, which raged over centuries, is presented as a sparring match between our two protagonists, performed by Penn O’Gara’s brilliant puppets, leading to the ultimate showdown over Marlowe’s Fate. In the end, as the spy masters discover, only Shaxper knows the truth.

Rehearsals are going well!

Hapless single-dad Grey is in a rut. Teenage daughter Silva packs him off to revive his rockstar dreams, successfully auditioning for ‘Nick & the Rhythmics’ only to realise… he’s actually signed up for an All-male Rhythmic Gymnastics troupe. Against the odds these burly blokes make it as far as the World Championships – twirling their ‘ribbons of fire’ – and along the way Grey finally learns to commit to life.  The production will feature choreography incorporating rhythmic gymnastics and sign language from Deaf men Dancing’s Mark Smith, as well as captions throughout all performances. There will be 6 BSL interpreted performances on December 6th, 7th, 17th, and 18th, and January 7th and 8th, Relaxed Performances on 18th and 22nd December and Audio Described shows on 21st and 22nd December.
