Cleckheaton Writers Group meeting 29 March 2021, minutes

Cleckheaton Writers Group (CWG) met on Monday on Zoom at 5.45pm with Karen and Sarah in attendance, Daniel, Alice, Gemma and Neil having passed on their apologies.

The minutes from the last meeting were agreed.

WIP updates: Sarah has secured an agent (congratulations Sarah), started a self-editing course and is planning her next novel. Karen has entered and won a Marketing Writers Course (taking place in April), attended Hachette, GEA and RNA Zoom events, entered #PitMad securing two requests for chapters of a novel (one has led to a full MS request) and entered the NWN: A Writing Chance competition. She has also been shortlisted for the Owned Voices Novel Award 2021 winning a Routes to Getting Published Q&A Session (winners announced 14 April).

No feedback session but there was a discussion about the Society of Authors (£100 to join for the year once published which gets you 10% discount at Waterstones) and Rhoda Baxter's book What you Need to know Before You're Published.

CW comps/workshops/events: 31 March One More Chapter deadline & Spread the Word deadline (5pm), 1 April Wergle Flomp deadline & Grindstone International Novel Prize YA, 5 April Emerging Writers deadline (11am) and 11 April Curtis Brown Creative Breakthrough Writers Mentoring deadline. Crime Writers Association online workshops (£5 each for non-members) Crime Scene Management Securing the Scene 22 April, Murder Under the Microscope 20 May and Pathology Opened Up 24 June. Graham Bartlett Police Adviser one day workshop in May £90 (consulting cops newsletter). Jericho Writers have a Self-Publishing Month in April and there is a FREE self-editing Session via Zoom on 19 April with Stephanie Butland 'How I Edit' details on Twitter.

Writing plans: Sarah is working on her new WIP and the self-editing course. Karen will be editing, planning and beginning to write a first draft of a sequel for CampNaNoWriMo and the Marketing Writers Course.
