Work in progress updates

Alice is working on her new book while waiting for more feedback on her other. The feedback has been delayed.

Mandy has been teaching a short story course for the past six weeks, and now has a lot of stories to critique. Has not had a lot of time for her own writing but has written a couple of flash fiction pieces.

Sarah has been working on the first draft of her third book in anticipation of a self-editing course which starts later this month. She has also been doing some research and recommends the services of Consulting Cops: www.consultingcops.com If you sign up to their newsletter, then you get a free question.

Gemma has been doing a course with Sophie Draper and Roz Watkins and another one with Ali Harper. She has attended a Jericho Writers’ historical fiction panel (online) and working on the structure of the novel.

Competition and events

Sarah mentioned that Harrogate Crime Festival is going ahead this year. 22-25 July.

Gemma said that One More Chapter is running a competition for underrepresented writers – closing date is 31 March 2021.

Writing plans

Sarah is going to finish draft one of her third book and work through her research list.

Mandy has some critiques to write and is working on a poem for a competition about Kyoto. She is also working on some short pieces. She also has another editing job to do.

Alice has joined a Facebook group called Write Magic which has word count challenges. It is open to anyone, not just children’s writers. Camp Nanowrimo is taking place in April.

Gemma is continuing to edit her manuscript. Feels more confident doing it this time around.

Next meeting: 15 March

Alice will not be attending the group for the next eight sessions as it clashes with a course she is doing.
