What are barcodes and why do you need them?

A barcode on a book is generated from the book’s 13 digit ISBN therefore guaranteeing that it is unique for each book. It provides all the information required by UK bookshops and retailers to stock and sell a book.

You can purchase both your ISBNs and Barcodes from Nielsen Book’s ISBN Store who are currently offering a special price of 10 barcodes for £79.99.

Plus...

Do you want to challenge yourself and showcase your work?

Here at Writing Magazine we always have so many exciting competitions for you to take part in, both new and returning, with cash and publication up for grabs. So take a look below...

Competitions to win big with Globe Soup

Globe Soup hosts four main writing competitions annually (travel writing, short story, poetry and flash fiction), each with a £1,000 prize up for grabs. Plus...

Join the Globe Soup Writing Group, an enthusiastic community of writers who connect, inspire and motivate each other. And take part in Globe Soup’s mini writing contests and giveaways and after each competition, exchange extensive feedback with peers in the group to help you to improve your writing.

Those looking for paid writing gigs can contribute to the GS blog. Check out their testimonials page to see just how valuable the Globe Soup experience is to writers.

Whatever genre you chose to write and whatever issues caused your dystopia to exist, explore the idea of ‘what if’ to create future and alternative worlds in stories you enter this month.

We commemorate the centenary of The Mysterious Affair at Styles with a competition for crime-themed poems. Your entry can extend beyond the realms of this single book, to embrace Agatha Christie’s writing.

Keep it short to get a sweet result. Make every word count as you tell any kind of story, in any kind of style or form, as long it’s no longer than 500 words.

The I has it this month. Whether your first-person narrator is reliable or unreliable, letting your story unfold in their own words lets you experiment with voice, style and point of view.

Win a consultation with literary agent Julia Churchill or children's author Amy Sparkes in our popular Picture Book and Chapter Book prizes.

Both competitions close on 31st October.
