November News From Slung Low
Hi Friend,
We hope you're well.
So, plans have once again been tweaked and we've had to
shift our scheduled live performances for November. However, we
hope you enjoy reading about what we got up to in October.
Also, it's still full speed ahead for the food bank all
month so if you can offer any time to support us, then please
head to the bottom of this page for details about how to contact
us.
Aaaaand, brace yourselves for a second newsletter this month, to
hear about how we'll be Christmassing the heck out of
December. There will be something for everyone to celebrate the
season!

We read Emergency Story Penguin to every child at

And then you bought each of them a book!

EMERGENCY STORY PENGUIN
We can't take our shows into schools, so we made one of our most
beloved stories into a book.
You can buy one here and we'll donate
another to a child in Holbeck. We've already delivered 340
to local children - thank you! And planning over 400 more
next week -
THANK YOU!

SIGNAL FIRES
On Saturday night, we lit a fire in the car park and invited
storytellers to rap, recite, sing and tell their tales, whilst
the fireworks of Holbeck sounded underneath a blue moon. Then we
ate chilli and parkin (Yorkshire deliciousness) until closing
time. Listen to Nima's "Whatever Story We Decide" here - it blew us
away.

|
CULTURAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE
We had a very wet start to October in the Slung Low Wood. Our weekly
online BSL and choir sessions have been much drier and
totally joyful.
You can still join Choir at any point and
we're very excited for Manjit's online cooking on
Sunday at 11am *tummy rumbles*.

THE LION INSIDE
On Saturday afternoon, the torrential rain stopped just in time
for LAStheatre's beautiful
& laugh-out-loud retelling of the award-winning
children's book 'The Lion Inside'.
The Holbeck car park was full of families (including ghosts
and vampires) heartily roaring along with Lion and Mouse.

beginning of summer and I will
definitely need it this winter” — via Twitter
Sessions
are daytime, but if you can’t make
them, we’ll send round recordings so
you can catch up at a time that suits
you, or check out our evening Fast Track
course. Hear a special message from

How does it work?
Join
us once a week from 11 Nov–14 Dec for a
one-hour Zoom session. Workshops be
split by voice type (Soprano, Alto,
Tenor and Bass) and there will be audio
and video resources form the Chorus of
Opera North themselves.
In
the final culmination session, singers
from all vocal parts will come together
for an online festive concert.
What will we be singing?
Repertoire
includes extracts from Puccini’s La
bohème, as well as Humperdinck’s Hansel
and Gretel, Sullivan’s ‘The Marquis
de Mince Pie’ and some of your
favourite carols.
Want more of a
challenge?
If
you already have experience of singing
and music reading, our two-week Fast
Track course, which runs on Thursday
evenings, might be for you. Learn the
notes in your own time, and hone your
technique in the sessions…

November's
sky is chill and drear, November's leaf is red and sear - Edinburgh-born Sir Walter Scott, Marmion (1808) …. While
it’s true that the nights are fair drawing in, winter is approaching, and
the heating is getting turned up, November can still give us plenty to
smile about.
Edinburgh truly lights
up in November – gardens and attractions become festooned with bright and
sparkling lights, brightening up the dark nights. It’s beginning to look at lot like
Christmas when the Dome on George Street switches on its
magnificent display of lights and (fake!) snow sprinkles from the roof!
Remember you can also
keep up to date on all-things-Edinburgh on our Twitter,
Facebook
and Instagram
channels. We love seeing Edinburgh through your lens, so
remember tag us #EdinPhoto
for your chance to appear on our feed – we can’t
wait to see what you’ve been discovering in our fabulous city!
Please continue to
protect yourself and your loved ones. Ensure you know what you can and
cannot do in Edinburgh - Know
Before you Go.

to make the most of Edinburgh this November…..

Protect you and your loved ones
Before you travel to
Edinburgh, please ensure you are aware of the latest health and safety
guidance and know what you can and cannot do in the scottish Capital.
