Country and Townhouse, Five things to get you through lockdown

Here are the latest newsletters from Country and Townhouse with ideas of things to get you through lockdown part two, competitions and more:

Would you paint your sitting room black like Lydia Millen and what the fig is Friluftsliv?

Could I please, kindly, ask for five minutes of your time? We are very keen to hear from you, our readers, so we’ve put together a short online survey so we can get to know you better and make sure we’re writing about what you want. In return you will automatically be entered into THE MOST AMAZING prize draw – five nights for two at The Nautilus Maldives, with business class flights from Etihad. Something to look forward to perhaps.

Have a great week.

WHAT’S KEEPING MY SPIRITS UP

SPARKLY THINGS

Jewellery can be imbued with so much – love, friendship, memory, moments. I still remember getting a tiny amethyst ring from my mum for my 10th birthday – my first ‘proper’ piece of jewellery. This month, I’m loving Kate Moss’s collection for Messika (yes, the super had a big hand in the design as well as modelling them). Just look at those sparkly danglers. They would cheer anyone up on a grizzly lockdown day.

THE CROWN

It’s back and now with Diana installed, it feels that much closer to home and that much more thrilling (if slightly voyeuristic). This is the royal era I grew up with and I’m going to be watching with an eagle eye, a batwing jumper and a Corgi on my lap. Love or loathe them, our royals have never failed to capture our imagination. If you still can’t get enough, there’s been a recent spate of royal books published. We pick the bestImage: Netflix

ORDERING MY YULETIDE FEAST

In the name of organisation, get your Christmas nosh order in early. For impeccably and ethically sourced meat (and some delicious cheat dishes), Farmison is an award-winning online butcher with superb turkeys, as well as goose, gammon, beef and venison. For veggies, I could handle Riverford’s organic nut roast extravaganza. And for foodie gift ideas, you can’t beat hampers personally curated and stuffed full of your favourite treats.

The insider’s guide to what’s trending in the design world, to your inbox monthly

I’ve pressed pause on hygge and Nordic calm – it’s time for noise and colour. I want a rich stew and truffle mash with friends around Bonadea’s claret and bronze table setting and afterwards, to dance wildly to 80s hits. As the evening ends, we’ll gather under David Hunt Lighting’s Liberty 6 light, inspired by a disco glitter ball, and smooch to Nights In White Satin. Have a funky, fun-filled November and never let the party stop.

FIVE MINUTES WITH... Emma Bridgewater

It all began when… I was in a shop trying to buy two cups and saucers for my mum’s birthday. I wanted them to convey loving that time of sitting together and talking – but I couldn’t find anything that felt right, and I saw an opportunity.

One of my very favourite sights… is three generations of women from one family in one of our shops, all excited about which patterns they are collecting.

What I love most about my job is… meeting my customers, it’s often emotional and we tell our life stories, because that’s what you do when you hold a cup and saucer.

Over Christmas I’ll be using… our Mince Pie plate – inspired by my absolute love for them.

DESIGN HACK

HOW TO… Christmas Tablescaping

Dreaming of a show stopping Christmas tablescape this year? Make socially distanced festivities beautiful with Bonadea’s Gemma Martinez de Ana...

1. Look for inspiration in the colours and patterns of your dining room

2. Invest in candlelight, and a beautiful centrepiece

3. More is more – so layer up wild greenery

4. Mix and match antique cutlery and glassware

5. For the best effect stick to a maximum of two patterns and three colours
