Join us for an evening with Antoine Laurain to
celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau Day!
Thursday 21 November
19.00 - 21.00
|
|
|
In France, the third Thursday of
November is celebrated as Beaujolais Nouveau Day, when the year’s
Beaujolais wines first become available. Bars and restaurants fill
up with people excited to taste the new wines and celebrate this
iconic part of their culture.
This year, we’re bringing some of that Gallic flavour to London and
hosting our own celebration, with guest of honour Antoine Laurain.
Bâtonnage Wine
Bar in Belgravia will be hosting us in their beautiful wine bar and
treating us to bespoke French-themed pizzas, charcuterie boards
and, of course, plenty of delicious Beaujolais wine.
The evening
will include a short talk from Antoine about his most recent book, Vintage 1954, in which a time-travelling
bottle of Beaujolais plays a key role, as well as a Q&A with
the audience. There will be a reading from Vintage 1954 and a signing later on in
the evening. You are invited to bring your own copies of Antoine's
books, or there will be some available to purchase on the night.
The rest of the evening is simply an opportunity to enjoy some
great food and drink in a wonderful French literary atmosphere.
Bâtonnage Wine Bar is a five-minute walk from Victoria Station and attendance is free of
charge, with all food and drink included. Please
note that space is limited and only registered guests will be
admitted on the night.
Please contact
isabelle@gallicbooks.com with any queries.
We hope to see you there!

THIS MORTAL BOY IN NEW YORK TIMES
"When Kidman
shows us Black at his most vulnerable, he and the novel are
magnetic... When his mother reaches into the pockets of his
childhood jacket, remembering where his hands once were, the fabric
can practically be felt through the page."
We were thrilled to read a beautiful review
of Fiona Kidman's multi-award winning novel This Mortal Boy in the New
York Times last weekend.

A Second
Proust Graphic Novel
We are
delighted to announce that Gallic will publish In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower in
graphic novel form this December. The second volume of In Search of Lost
Time was also the text that won Proust
the prestigious Prix Goncourt in 1919.
The 112-page sumptuously illustrated graphic
adaptation aims to encourage readers to explore beyond the
famous madeleine moment and the Combray scenes of volume one.

Proust on Radio 4
Treat yourself to a 10 hour adaptation of
Proust's In Search of Lost Time, performed on BBC Radio 4 and
spread across the bank holiday weekend.
Where our graphic novel series recreates
proust for the eyes, this will do the same for the ears. So switch
off your phone, unplug, and enjoy 'listening to a labyrinthine
exploration of consciousness that appears, from what everyone says
about it, to be primarily concerned with biscuit-dunking.'

The Lady and The Girls
In the wake of the release of Sebastien Japrisot's The Lady in the Car with Glasses
and a Gun, we look at the recent trend for unpredictable,
unscrupulous heroines, ask why they have captured our attention,
and trace the motif of 'The Girl' back to The Lady herself, Dany
Longo.
The Lady in
the Car with Glasses and a Gun is available to buy now.
