See brand new production photos, hot off the press!

Our groundbreaking new production of Verdi's imperial epic Aida opens tonight, following in the footsteps of our acclaimed series of concert stagings; Salome, the Ring cycle and Turandot.

In our concert stagings, the orchestra takes centre-stage and becomes part of the landscape of the drama. With triumphal trumpets and atmospheric moments that summon up the heat and sand of Aida's desert setting, our production is both a visual and aural treat and a unique way to experience the power of opera.

Get a sneak peek of what to expect with our incredible production images.

Coming to a concert hall near you

This May, witness a dramatic concert staging of Verdi’s spectacular opera Aida.

Verdi's tragic story of forbidden love sees the captured Aida secretly in love with enemy general, Radamès, who returns her love. When Radamès is selected to lead a renewed assault against the enemy, Aida is forced to choose between betraying her country and betraying her heart.

This new concert staging reunites the creative team from our ★★★★★ 2017 production of Turandot, and features an international cast, the Chorus of Opera North and the full Orchestra of Opera North live on stage, right at the heart of the action.

Below, watch our teaser trailer starring Colombian soprano Alexandra Zabala (making her Opera North debut) and Mexican tenor Rafael Rojas (Tosca and Turandot), and brush-up on the story of Aida with our short synopsis.
