of "The Exact Opposite of OK", the hilarious but honest look at
feminism, slut shaming and friend zoning. A brilliant end of term treat
to calm pre-exam nerves.
A Read Regional talk. More authors coming between April

Northern Writers:
D R Dixon
Wired Thoughts
D. R. Dixon doesn’t know how he got to where he is now as
actually his biggest interest was music. He thinks he must have made a
wrong turn somewhere but as it is he is very happy that he did; he says
it’s not until he started writing that he really found out about the
power of the human imagination and that our true calling can be hidden
from ourselves, never mind anyone else.
The result is his book "Wired Thoughts":
Stories of everyday life told in their most explicit form touching on the
warmest and brightest side of human nature as well as the most darkest
and sinister. This book asks the questions, but only you have the
answers

Read Regional:
Clare Shaw
Flood
Clare will be reading from her third poetry collection "Flood"
which was inspired by the devastating floods in 2013 and 2015. She uses
the flood as a metaphor for other destructive experiences whilst also
expressing our ability to recover, which compliments her work as a mental
health trainer.

Read Regional:
Mark Illis
Impossible on the run
Mark has written extensively for tv and
is delighted to be visiting Dewsbury to talk about his new teenage novel "Impossible on the run"
where the charcaters mutate in scary ways and discover weird happenings
in their small town.
Marks pacey road trip tale is not just
for young people so this event has been timed for adults to attend during
their lunch breaks.

Writing: Making
Your Mark
An
exhibition in partnership with the British Library & the Living
Knowledge Network
Perfect for families, the Writing: Making Your Mark
display draws on the themes of a new British Library exhibition, which
spans five millennia and five continents, exploring one of humankind’s
greatest achievements—the act of writing.
Through images of carved stone inscriptions, medieval
manuscripts and early printed works, Writing: Making Your Mark will
deconstruct the art of writing and consider its future in the digital
age.
Our exhibition will also highlight and explore some
of the extraordinary examples of documents and writing to be found in
Kirklees. There will be a programme of activities and talks to accompany
the exhibition.
You will be able to visit the exhibition at Huddersfield,
Cleckheaton, Dewsbury and Batley.
Writing: Making Your Mark will launch simultaneously on
Thursday April 25th in over 20 public libraries around the UK, through
the Living Knowledge Network. |
Get it Loud in
Libraries: Robyn Hitchcock
A
Kirklees Libraries and Get it Loud in Libraries presentation
"Robyn Hitchcock is one of England's most
enduring contemporary singer/songwriters and live performers. A
surrealist poet, talented guitarist, cult artist and musician's
musician..." (RobynHitchcock.com)
"A gifted melodist, Hitchcock nests engaging lyrics
in some of the most bracing, rainbow-hued pop this side of Revolver. He
wrests inspiration not from ordinary life but from extraordinary
imaginings..." (Rolling Stone)
