Short Story Selection
Set
in the steampunk world of New York’s sixth borough Lytton, moving pictures
and advanced machines have started to worry the commonplace residents.
Two young
inventors try to find their way in this seemingly British version of New
York.
This story
questions both the nature of machines as well as the nature of the self. How
do humans create machines with minds, and why does it keep occurring?

Short Story Selection
Author
Peter S. Beagle spins a wonderful tale set in historic China, a culture that
has inspired many of his writings. The tale follows Kao Yu, a highly
respected judge who must travel to a small village to pass sentences that his
former teacher is unable to due to an illness.
Normally a judge
of his status would not go, but as a favor, he hears out these petty disputes
and theft charges. One such pickpocket catches his eye, and he becomes
restless with love. His heart begins to change, noticed by his associates
when he is no longer visited by the fabled Chinese unicorn, the chi-lin.
