Ann Cleeves & Cath Staincliffe
Ann Cleeves is a
recipient of the prestigious Crime Writers’ Association Diamond
Dagger. Her latest books are Wild Fire, the eighth and final
book in the Shetland novels, now in its fifth series as a major
BBC1 drama, and The Seagull, the eighth Vera Stanhope novel,
currently on its ninth ITV series as Vera.
Cath
Staincliffe is a novelist, radio playwright
and the creator of ITV’s hit series, Blue Murder, and
the Scott & Bailey novels, based on the popular TV
series. Her latest standalone novel is Fear of Falling.

- In My Life
Politician
turned award-winning author Alan Johnson talks about his lifelong
passion for music. His latest entertaining memoir explores the
musical soundtrack to his life, from listening to Bing Crosby on
the radio as a small child living in condemned housing in London
in the 1950s, to singers such as Bob Dylan, David Bowie and Bruce
Springsteen – not to forget his beloved Beatles.
The event will include a live performance of
Beatles songs by musician Tom George.

next year's Festival:
On Saturday 23 March there’s a chance to meet Elmer the Elephant who is celebrating his 30th
birthday with a meet and greet at the Packhorse Centre in
Huddersfield. One of the most iconic and widely read children’s
book series of all time, Elmer is the creation of celebrated
author and artist, David McKee.
And for stressed out adults the
Festival has a relaxing day of health and wellbeing on the same day, including
proactive parenting tips from Mandy Saligari; a talk on harnessing the power
of jeopardy by entrepreneur Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones; advice on how to free yourself
from anxiety from Sam Owen; stories from The Happiness
Bible with Cheryl
Rickman; and a
workshop on how to support your mental wellbeing with Tom George.

Calling all
witty women writers:
A major new award for witty women, the Comedy
Women in Print (CWIP) Prize, has announced that they are joining
forces with HarperFiction. The publisher will offer the winning
aspiring, comic female novelist a publishing contract and £5,000
advance. The runner-up will be offered a free MA in Creative
Writing from the University of Hertfordshire.
The CWIP
Prize was created by actress and stand-up comedienne Helen
Lederer as a way of discovering and nurturing new talent.
Entrants
to the unpublished category are asked to submit a one-page
synopsis and the first 5,000 words of their comedy novel, which,
when completed must be at least 85,000 words in length. Entrants
can be of any nationality but must be over 18 years old. For more

Alongside
the award for an unpublished writer, the CWIP Prize will also
offer an award for Comedy Writing by a published author with a
prize fund of £2,000. Entrants can be of any nationality but must

TV writer, producer and director Sally Wainwright
in conversation with Michelle Hodgson, director of Huddersfield
Literature Festival. Sally will discuss Gentleman
Jack, her upcoming BBC drama series about the life of the 19th
century lesbian diarist, Anne Lister.
