Welcome to the October edition of What’s On
 
Come in from the cold this Autumn and warm your heart and soul with two great theatre shows. Join us this half-term, from 24 - 28 October, for a show for young audiences and their grown ups The Worried Walrus at various venues On Tour in North Kirklees. 

Then, from 26 November - 1 December, Not Too Tame theatre company return to your local with Tuckshop a new fun-filled night to enjoy over a drink and a packet of crisps.


For those who like to brave the outdoors, we have one amazing outdoor spectacular coming up... HeckmondLIGHT returns on Saturday 26 November from 4-8pm, a festive switch on with some new digital twists...

If you're an artist, producer or freelance creative - we've a great new series of FREE workshops coming up as part of our extended 'Faculty' programme to help you grow your business or freelance practice. See below for how to book - and hurry! We expect high demand.
 
Tuckshop
Not Too Tame, the award winning company that brought you the sell-out Early Doors last year, are back and invite you to have a little bit of what you fancy at their Tuckshop

Tuckshop is an evening which offers a pick'N'mix of stories and characters that will have you howling and crying from one moment to the next!

With fresh live music, mischief, mayhem and bags of retro sweets.

Are you a writer who'd like to see their work performed live? Not Too Tame are looking for scripts for 1-5 actors and between 2-10 minutes to be performed as part of Tuckshop. More Details 
 
 
HeckmondLIGHT 2017
Set to be West Yorkshire’s must-see outdoor festive event, join us for an illuminations like no other in the heart of Heckmondwike. See Green Park lit up with a host of new digital commissions from artists including The Brick Box, 154 Collective, Rozi Fuller
& Liz Walker, Impossible Arts & Andy Plant, Digital Funfair and Richard Broderick. With fiery delights from Flame Oz you won’t want to miss this year’s special switch on.

Launch Event
For the inside track on this year's HeckmondLIGHT, join us for our launch event to meet some of the artists and hear from Dr Steve Millington about how light can transform our experience of place.Steve is an expert in all things illuminations and has researched the lights of Blackpool as well as the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen,  and he's intrigued by the heritage of Heckmondwike's own Illuminations.

You will also meet some of the artists who are creating work for the event - from shadow puppetry to cycle powered projections and The Momentum Wheel - a special finale moment that is sure to go with a BANG!

The Worried Walrus
Children - bring your adults too for this laugh a minute magical journey as Wendy the Walrus prepares for the daftest contest in town.

Odd Doll create enchanting puppetry theatre for adults and children using visuals, live music and storytelling. Full of laughs, adventure, larger-than-life characters and lots of joining in. Take some time out this half term and treat your little people to a perfect afternoon of great value live entertainment.

Perfect for under 8's and their grown ups who love adventures.

The Faculty: The Academy Workshops
Want to grow your freelance arts business or small organisation, find out how theatres and galleries work, learn to make your sums add up and your proposals stand out?
The Academy is a series of 12 workshops from October 2016 – February 2017, developed and delivered by LeftCoast, and supported by Creative SceneSuper Slow Way and Heart of Glass. It’s open to all creative practitioners, and free places and priority booking will be given to people from these Creative People and Places areas.
All workshops take place in Blackpool and Wyre. Creative Scene can provide a number of travel bursaries. To apply for a travel bursary please email lisa@creativescene.org.uk
