July's News from Slung Low We had a brilliant time creating the Fairy Portal Camp in Stratford-upon-Avon with the RSC. Thanks to everyone that came to take part, share in the midsummer magic and help open to the portal to the fairy world. Do check out James Phillips' wonderful photographs here. As soon as we returned from Stratford, it was over to Manchester 's Heaton Park for the National Commemoration of the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme, which some of us worked on. 19,240 tickets were made available to members of the public for the free event - which was the same as the number of men who died on the first day of battle at the Somme on 1 July 1916. The batch of 15 Minute Live plays that we recorded at The Holbeck are now on line - you can listen or download here. On Saturday 30th July we will be holding a writing workshop at the HUB. Together we shall share lunch, walk around the Holbeck area and with the guidance of a local writer create stories real and imagined about the places we have seen.  If you are interested in joining us for this writing day then please email sally@slunglow.org We are really pleased to announce that our HUB choir will return in September. Our sessions run on Tuesday evenings and start by sharing a meal together before the singing begins. As well as welcoming back any existing choir members we are also looking for some new members to join us. So if you enjoy singing and would like to sign up, you can do so here. Both the writers workshop and the choir are completely free.   There are a couple of fab Edinburgh Fringe previews taking place at the HUB this month - see them right here in Holbeck before anyone else! Places are being snapped up very quickly so get reserving to avoid missing out: Stories To Tell In The Middle of the Night with Francesca Millican Slater is here this Friday 8 July at 7:30, and at the end of the month you can see Stephanie RIding's The Road To Huntsville on Sunday 31 July at 5pm. Shows in the HUB will take a break for August - we've a cracking season lined up beginning again in September and we'll be announcing that very soon.
