Tomorrow, Thursday 25 June, 8pm, Seven jazz presents Moonlight Saving Time playing a
very engaging set of popular standards. Bristol based singer Emily
Wright, is a jazz vocalist with a unique, honest tone, a spirited
bandleader and innovative composer with a refreshingly original approach
to the jazz idiom. £10 /£8 conc. Doors 7.45pm.
Seven Jazz returns on Sunday 28 June,1.30 – 4pm, with the Tom Maddison Nonet Nine
piece contemporary jazz ensemble organised by Leeds
bassist Tom Maddison, featuring Harry Orme on guitar, Will Howard
on Flute and Tenor, Simon Dennis on Trumpet and Flugel, Jack
Chandler on Alto, Peter Johnson on Trombone, and Tom Maddison on Double
Bass and composition. £10/£8 conc Kids under 16 free.
The Screen Seven movie on Monday 29 June, 8pm, is Looking For Hortense.
Damien is a sad professor, shunned by both his wife and his father, and
toiling to save a fetching local waitress from being deported. Pascal
Bonitzer's lugubrious Paris-set redemption tale is a film that's
positively marinated in tears, red wine and cigarette smoke. Not to be
missed. Subtitles. £6 /£4.50 conc.
On Tuesday 30 June, 8pm, Café Psychologique explores Aspiration
and Inequality. This month, Nick Tanna, Group Analyst, on understanding
the general election result. Does anybody? Hosted by Chris Powell, chat
and think over a drink. £4 on the door.
Rounding off the week on Friday 3 July, 8pm, and welcoming July with a
bang, the Summer Songwriting
Showcase promises to be a great show. Acclaimed UK artist
Rob Green, alongside a host of Leeds’s most promising singer/songwriters,
delivers an evening of intimate acoustic soul dedicated to lyrics, life
and the love of music. With Marion Zubryzcki, Giles Winterton, Tila &
Tavelah, Natalie Duncan, and Christella. £5 on the door.
Coming up on 9 July, 8pm, one man show, Martin Semple –
#StandUpSoldier. As a comedian Semple calls on many of his
experiences as a soldier, drawing comic relief from some of the most high
intensity situations of the recent conflicts. Compelling stuff. £5 / £4
conc.
