OTHER NEWS
.
Stop the closure of the TILL Certificate in Creative Writing!
Student reps have created an online petition against the changes in The Institute for Lifelong Learning programme. The University Senate has approved the closure of the Certificate in Creative Writing and this has been formally withdrawn (this will only affect new applicants) This petition is on the City council website and is open to anyone who lives, works or studies in Sheffield. It is quite separate to the paper petition for university members. You can sign both!
Apologies to those not in the Sheffield area, but this action is part of a wide-ranging programme of cuts from the ‘civic’ University of Sheffield. Many have benefited greatly from the adult learning provision it has offered over the years and this marks yet another attack on lifelong learning in the UK.
If the e-petition gets enough signatures, then the issue can be raised at council meetings, and then the council can protest to the university. So, we would urge you all to sign, and get your friends and neighbours in Sheffield to sign too.
You will find the e-petition here

The Midsummer Poetry Festival - Call for Young Writers
The Midsummer Poetry Festival, in association with Sheffield Poetry Festival, is a month-long celebration of poetry, offering a varied and inclusive poetry platform at Bank Street Arts.
The festival runs from 6-28 June and will include workshops, symposium, exhibitions and performances by poets including Helen Mort, Katharine Towers, Stan Skinny, and students from Sheffield Hallam University and University of Sheffield.
We would like to invite other young writers (approximately 16-24) to share the stage. We are looking for a mixture of readers, including those that would benefit from an opportunity to read in front of a supportive audience alongside other young voices, as well as other more established performers. If that’s you, get in touch by clicking here

Poems from the Road
The Poems from the Road podcast will be a poetic journey down Britain's traffic arteries, including work by poets from around the country, along with an audio collage of poetic tweets from Britain's A-roads.
The road is many things to many people: a place of alienation, danger, abstraction, release, solitude, speed. It takes up vast chunks of much of our lives, yet is often neglected as one of the spaces we inhabit in the rush from A to B. What of the inner world, the landscapes, the journeys, the people that populate them?
As part of the Poems from the Road podcast, Robin Vaughan-Williams will be putting together an audio collage of poetic tweets from Britain's A-roads and he's inviting you to join in by submitting your poetic tweet from the road. All tweets submitted this way will be retweeted, and then in June 2014, Robin will be be using selected tweets to produce a multi-voice poetry soundscape for the podcast, with the tweets woven together into a collage of our collective experience of the road.

The opportunity - Between now and January 2015 we aim to open up a huge range of creative opportunities for emerging artists, including: Resource sharing - We have space, time and sometimes money to share with emerging artists to give them the space and time they need to develop their practice. In return we ask that you help us create and build an artistic hub.
Café & Bar - We aim to make a space that’s not just accessible at all times to artists but also audiences. We want to create informal shared spaces where small scale performance & experience collaborations, cabaret, food and music events can happen any time.
To find out more - Theatre Delicatessen are holding an Open Day in the new Sheffield space on Thursday 29th May 2014, between 2 – 9 pm, companies and artists are invited to explore the building, find out more about us and more about the opportunities coming up. This is a fantastic platform for emerging companies and theatre makers to develop their practice in a highly creative space, with a view to showcasing their work in a professional, collaborative forum.
