Entry Dates

 Submissions to The Equestrian Short Story Competition 2014 will be accepted from Tuesday 13th May 2014

 The deadline for receipt of entries is 5pm (GMT) on Monday 11th August 2014

How to Enter


Applicants are to make their submission online only by
emailing their entry to haynetblog@hotmail.co.uk

1. Please read the Entry Terms & Conditions on this page and thoroughly check the author whose work is due to be submitted is eligible for the competition. Submission of an entry is taken as acceptance of all the Terms and Conditions.

2. Type and format the short story as per the following instructions:
One entry per author
Written in English
A maximum of 6,000 words with a  500 word synopsis
Typed
Font: any font, 12pt, black
No page numbers
Include a front page which details the Title of Story, Authors Name and the Word Count

3. Save as a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx) with the Author’s Name and Title of Story in the file name as per the following example:

4. Subject matter should be equestrian themed. We would like to see stories that have an equestrian background rather solely about just a horse. Maybe a crime novel set in the horse world, are you the next Dick Francis or perhaps a fantasy novel or an equestrian Harry Potter? How about an equestrian romance which is ideal for all the Jilly Cooper addicts!
 

Entry Terms and Conditions


Please read the following terms and conditions in full to ensure that the author whose work is due to be submitted is eligible for the Award.
 

1. THE AWARDS


In order to establish a manageable long list all entries will initially be read by members of Haynet and Lavender & White Equestrian Publishing. Lavender & White Equestrian Publishing has professional expertise in the literary field whilst Haynet has experience in equestrian blog writing especially through social media. The best stories will be put forward to the judges who will be responsible for compiling a shortlist of five outstanding short stories submitted for the Equestrian Short Story Competition 2014 from which they will select the winning story and the two runners-up.

1.2 The winning award is their short equestrian story published in the form of an e-book and also a Haynet logo hoody. They will also receive a certificate of this award.

There will be two runners-up award who will have their stories published on the websites of Haynet and Lavender & White Equestrian Publishing. 

 

2. ELIGIBILITY & CONDITIONS


The Award is open to Worldwide authors aged 16 years or over on the submission deadline(Monday 11th August 2014– 5pm GMT) .

The story must not exceed six thousand five hundred  (6,500) words. The story should be up to six thousand words (6,000) and  include a five hundred word (500) synopsis .
Entries may be submitted by the author only.  No more than one story per author may be submitted. It is the responsibility of the author to make sure that there is not more than one of his/her stories submitted in total. If more than one story is submitted, only the first story received will be considered.

Authors can only enter individually and not as part of a writing team.
Winners will be notified at the email address stated in their entry.
Entries must be submitted via email to haynetblog@hotmail.co.ukWith the subject heading

Please include your email address and other contact details in the body of the email. Your entry can appear in the body of the email or as an email attachment in “WORD” document only.

Haynet and Lavender & White Equestrian Publishing cannot accept responsibility for entries that are not received or which are received after the closing date due to technical failure or for any other reason

The winning story will be available for members of the public to download the story in the form of an e-book at a cost of 99p. 20% of this will be towards the running costs of the download through the internet and the remaining 80% will be donated to an equestrian welfare charity being the World Horse Welfare


The author is not entitled to any profits made through the winning download. Winners agree to participate in being named through publicity and events in connection with the competition.

Haynet and Lavender & White Equestrian Publishing and the winner may enter into agreements which will grant Haynet and Lavender & White Equestrian Publishing the publishing, serial and electronic rights to the shortlisted and winning entries.

Haynet and Lavender & White Equestrian Publishing reserve the right to change the rules of this competition without notice.

Haynet and Lavender & White Equestrian Publishing are not liable for any copyright issues or dispute of ownership of content submitted for entries of the competition. The decision of the competition judges will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
