A Million Ways to Die in the West movie review

A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014) Poster

Took the family and my daughters' boyfriend to see this yesterday and everybody laughed so much.  I was worried that the best bits of the film would be the bits we'd already seen in the trailer, but this wasn't true.  Yes, they were in there and some of the ones from the trailer were not in the movie, but also there were many more funnies still to enjoy.

IMDB says: As a cowardly farmer begins to fall for the mysterious new woman in town, he must put his new-found courage to the test when her husband, a notorious gun-slinger, announces his arrival.

Seth MacFarlane (Ted, Family Guy) directs, produces, writes and stars as Albert and sometimes I think this is a problem as some of his scenes don't feel as genuine, but as it is all an over-the-top spoof, it kind of works.  Charlize Theron (Monster, Hancock) is Anna, wife of dangerous outlaw Clinch Leatherwood (Liam Neeson of Taken, Star Wars),.  Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia, The Big Wedding) plays Louise, Albert's ex-girlfriend who has moved on to a more moneyed prospect in Foy (Neil Patrick Harris of Doogie Howser, M.D., Starship Troopers) the moustache man.  The excellent Giovani Ribissi (Avatar, Saving Private Ryan, or as my daughter knows him best, Phoebe's brother from Friends) plays Edward his friend and boyfriend to Ruth (Sarah Silverman of School of Rock, There's Something About Mary) who works at the local Whore House.  There is a running joke in the movie about Edward and Ruth being good Christians which is priceless and there are many more nods to updated beliefs as opposed to how things have not really changed in the world even from Wild West times that are brilliant observations made humorous.

There are many sexual joke scenes and of course, the ubiquitous toilet humour, for example the showdown with Foy which was predictable, yet somehow still funny and there are some amusing little cameos from others such as Ewan McGregor (Star Wars, Trainspotting) and  (), who I can tell you about without ruining the jokes.  But there are two others which are even more hilarious, but I am avoiding spoilers.

Made me want to watch Ted as I am one of the few who has not seen this movie and I am assured it is in the same vein humour-wise.  Next up is probably 22 Jump Street, so I think there may be a Summer theme going on.

Tagline: Bring protection.                                                                                7.5/10
