Yorkshire Writers' Newsletter

February 2014

A warm welcome to all and how is your writing going? Most people say "Well, you know, I should be doing more, I keep doing a bit but this crops up and then something else and before I know it, well, it's February, already!" It is too, and we know how you feel - time travels too fast for most of us and hey, another day, been and gone and once again, we haven't written a word. With this in mind the Writing Yorkshire Brigade have been busy in the background, planning, shaping and tweaking - we've come up with lots of ideas to help you all grab control and prioritise your writing, just like you intended. Over the coming months we'll be detailing our new series of writing masterclasses and workshops as well as outlining the Yorkshire Young Writers Festival and much more - to keep updated inbetween the newsletters you can follow us on our twitter feed - @writingyorks  or our website blog http://writingyorkshire.org/blog/

Now, pens poised, let's start taking notes ..........

WRITING YORKSHIRE NEWS

Andrew Leigh - ‘Inner Critic’ Masterclass.
The first Writing Yorkshire masterclass in our new series is just the one to help you with your New Year Writing Resolutions - It’s not easy being your best when your inner critic relentlessly nags and whispers how little it thinks of you and your ability to write.
You probably know how it goes: you’re not good enough; writing is selfish; you have nothing to say; you don’t deserve it. And that’s just for starters.
Hardly surprising then that writer’s block, procrastination and uncertainty are such frequent and unwelcome companions.
Thankfully inner critics aren’t nearly as invincible as they think. During this 3 hour interactive workshop we’ll explore ways of recognizing and quietening our inner critic. We’ll practice simple ways of stopping it in its tracks and replacing its damaging messages with positive, empowering ones, giving you the mental freedom to write in peace.

 The Inner Critic Workshop includes:
 • Defining and understanding your inner critic
 • Separating your inner critic from you
 • Helpful exercises and techniques
 • Question & answer session
 • A free 50 page pdf e-book

This masterclass will be led by Andrew Leigh. Andrew is a member of the Writing Yorkshire coaching team. He is a full-time life coach with over a decade’s experience of helping people achieve powerful, positive change. Andrew is founder and president of The Sheffield Coaching Exchange and prior to qualifying as a coach he taught English and Creative Writing at Barnsley College and headed the college’s Creative Writing distance learning course. Andrew has an M.A. in Writing and for four years was Chair
(or co-chair) of Sheffield Hallam University Writers’ Group.

When:  on Saturday 22nd March between 10:00am and 1:30pm.
Where: Bank Street Arts, Bank Street, Sheffield, S1 2DS
Cost: £13.50 for Writing Yorkshire members / £18.00 for non-members
