Creative Writing Workshop: Play on Words

Saturday 12 July, 10.30am - 4pm, £15

Writing

Join writer Becky Cherriman to experiment with word games and lyrical tricks inspired by Franz West's playful use of language in the current exhibition, Where is my Eight?

About the session

Add some creativity into your writing and play with words in this fun and innovative creative writing workshop inspired by Franz West: Where Is My Eight?. Create characters inspired by Franz West's and Barbara Hepworth’s plasters and experiment with different writing techniques, from novel ways of recording conversation to automatic writing and collage poems. Using writing games devised in response to West’s artistic approach, we will look for fresh ways of collaborating and reconfiguring our works in progress to discover how joyful rewriting can be. At the end of the session you will have developed an understanding of West’s work, experimented with language and found new ways of tapping into your creativity.

The workshop leader aims to create a safe and supportive space in which writers feel happy to read their work out to the group for constructive feedback. However there will be no pressure to read if you are uncomfortable with doing so. The workshop is open to anyone with an  open-mind and the desire to play, but participants should have basic literacy skills or be accompanied by a scribe.
