Weekly Escape

Hey

Have you ever watched Race Across The World and thought…I’d actually quite like to try that?

Well, you can - right here in Yorkshire.

James and I recently took on Race Across The World: The Experience in York, and it turned out to be one of the most fun and unusual ways we’ve explored the city.

You play in teams, follow clues and directions through WhatsApp, race between checkpoints, solve physical puzzles, manage an in-game budget and even complete little “jobs” along the way to earn more money.

And just like the TV show, every decision can affect your final result.

Do you spend more money on easier directions?

Do you stop to work and earn extra funds?

Do you race through York as quickly as possible…or slow down and enjoy the journey?

We definitely got a little too competitive at times. 😅

What I loved most, though, was that it wasn’t just another digital treasure hunt.

At each checkpoint, you head into a real York business, give the secret phrase and receive a physical puzzle to solve before you can unlock the next leg of your journey.

By the end, we were confidently charging into venues shouting the secret phrase like we’d been doing it for years.

It was brilliant fun.

Even though I know York really well, the game still managed to lead us to places and little hidden gems I hadn’t discovered before - which, for me, is always the best part of these kinds of experiences.

The full race takes around 2–3 hours, but you can make much more of a day of it. The timer pauses at certain points, giving you time to grab some food, enjoy a drink or explore nearby York attractions before continuing.

We played as a couple and thought it made such a memorable date activity, but I could easily see this working brilliantly for friends or families too.

And with October half term coming up later this month, it could be a really fun way to spend a day in York if you’re looking for something a little different.

I’ve written a full review covering exactly how the experience works, what to expect, the puzzles, the route, my tips before you start and whether I think it’s worth booking.

👉 Read my Race Across The World: The Experience York review here

And if it sounds like your kind of adventure, you’ll also find the booking link inside the guide so you can choose a date and start time that works for you.

Would your team be racing for the top of the leaderboard…or stopping for snacks at every opportunity?

Until our next adventure,
