A special offer from Professional Writing Academy
We are thrilled to team up with the Professional Writing Academy to offer you an exclusive 25% discount on two novel writing courses which start in January and February 2027.
Since they launched the world's first fully online MA in writing in 2009, Professional Writing Academy's courses have helped to develop the talent of tens of thousands of novelists and screenwriters worldwide.
We are big fans of PWA courses. They are taught in small workshop groups so you can chat through ideas, ask questions and share your work, and we have selected two of their longer novel writing courses which we think are a particularly good fit.
Full disclosure: if you sign up using the booking page links below, we will receive a commission from PWA (at no cost to you) which will go directly into our sponsored entries scheme for writers on a low income.
To claim your 25% discount, just enter the code BATHNOVEL when booking.

Thank you to everyone who has already taken part. There's still time to add your thoughts before the deadline of October 31st 🎃
Share your views for the chance to win a free award entry!
Here at the Bath Novel Awards we’re always looking for new ways to support your writing journey and we’re currently exploring offering a small number of masterclasses focused on what makes a manuscript stand out. To make sure any events we offer are genuinely useful, we have created a short survey which takes 2–3 minutes to complete. What would you most like to learn? Are there particular topics you’d find practical, relevant and valuable? And what event length and day of the week would work best for you? As a thank you for completing the survey, we've included a prize draw to win a free entry to either the Bath Children’s Novel Award 2026 or the Bath Novel Award 2027.
The survey is entirely anonymous and open until October 31st, and we look forward to hearing your views! |

Meet the winner of the Bath Novel Award 2026: Tracy RickettThis week we caught up with BNA 2026 winner Tracy Rickett. She tells us about her writing journey including a couple of attempts at crime manuscripts which "never quite got there" before Child of Necessity became "the one that stuck."
It's the story of a transatlantic hunt for a child serial killer and the impact on those inside the investigation who have to live with the consequences of difficult decisions. Tracy told us: "That grey area interests me far more than clear-cut right and wrong. People can act out of love, duty or desperation and still cause harm, and I think that’s probably true of life more generally. Most of us are making imperfect decisions with incomplete information and hoping we’ve got them right." |

Chloe Seager to judge the Bath Children’s Novel Award 2026
We are delighted to announce literary agent Chloe Seager of MMA as judge for the 12th Bath Children’s Novel Award.
Chloe's track record of securing publishing deals and auctions in the children’s and YA markets speaks for itself, with two thirds of her contracts in 2025 running into six figures. She is a fierce advocate for diversity in publishing, with a high proportion of authors from underrepresented groups and was shortlisted for Agent of the Year at the British Book Awards in 2024 and 2026.
Her list includes No.1 Sunday Times bestselling Katie Kirby (the Lottie Brooks series) and Heba Al-Wasity (Weavingshaw), No.1 New York Times bestselling Laura Steven (Our Infinite Fates), Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé (Ace of Spades) and Jordan Lees (The Whisperwicks), New York Times bestselling and award-winning Lex Croucher (Gwen and Art Are Not In Love) and multi-award winning authors Danielle Jawando (When Our Worlds Collided) and Benjamin Dean (How to Die Famous).
Chloe said: “I’m thrilled to judge this year’s Bath Children’s Novel Award, especially in the National Year of Reading. Getting children back into books is more important than ever. That starts with authors writing the kinds of stories children genuinely want to read. I’m looking forward to discovering fresh, exciting new voices among the entries.”
Chloe will judge the winning entry from a shortlist chosen by Junior Judges aged 7 to 17 years, with the £5,000 winning author announced in March 2027. |
