SkinCeuticals’ C E Ferulic: A Gold Standard Antioxidant

Proven in clinical studies to visibly reverse up to ten years of ageing signs*, C E Ferulic is SkinCeuticals’ iconic vitamin C serum. Considered a gold standard by dermatologists worldwide, two decades after its launch it continues to prove its defence against today’s environmental aggressors.

For our 2026 Aesthetics Guide, we’ve partnered with leading skincare brand SkinCeuticals. To celebrate, we’re offering C&TH readers the chance to win a bespoke bundle of bestsellers worth over £400 including the cult C E Ferulic, widely known as the original vitamin C serum. Read on to find out how to enter, but first discover what makes C E Ferulic a gold standard when it comes to serums, 20 years since its inception.

Plus, shop SkinCeuticals now and use the code CTHSKC to receive an exclusive 10% off plus a complimentary deluxe 15ml C E Ferulic sample when you spend £140.

What Makes It A Gold Standard?

Vitamin C is widely known to be a powerhouse ingredient, protecting the skin from environmental damage while brightening, firming and reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

And yet the antioxidant responsible for neutralising free radicals caused by UV light and environmental stress varies radically from one formulation to another.

‘C E Ferulic is the best and original vitamin C serum – every vitamin C product that came after it is a spin-off of the research and science that Dr Sheldon Pinnell at Duke University did twenty years ago,’ says Dr Wassim Taktouk from The Taktouk Clinic in London. ‘What he discovered is that vitamin C is not only a brilliant antioxidant, but when combined with vitamin E and ferulic acid it becomes eight times more effective.’

He adds, ‘The original scientific research was focused on its contribution to reducing the damaging effects of UV exposure. Twenty years later, studies have shown C E Ferulic’s ability to defend against other types of environmental aggressors such as ozone, pollution and metals,’ explains Dr Taktouk.

The Duke Parameters

L-ascorbic acid is the most proven, bioavailable form of vitamin C, helping to target signs of ageing caused by collagen loss and to brighten the skin. Its Achilles heel, however, is that it is a highly unstable molecule that oxidises easily, which is why many of the ‘dupes’ available at a fraction of the cost opt for less potent alternatives with a longer shelf life.

SkinCeuticals takes the long view, utilising the most effective, purest form of vitamin C and formulating it at just the right pH (below 3.5) with two complementary antioxidants at optimum concentration. To this day, explains Dr Taktouk, SkinCeuticals formulates every bottle to a strict protocol known as the Duke parameters. ‘The science shows there’s a sweet spot that delivers stability with optimum benefits and little to no irritation.’

Dr Taktouk believes faithful dedication to this delicate orchestration is what drives consumer loyalty, despite it costing more. ‘C E Ferulic is expensive in comparison to many other vitamin C products, therefore it’s important that clients see the value they are getting from their investment,’ he says.

The Results

The results, reports Taktouk, range from an immediate dewy glow to long-term brightening and evening out of the complexion, alongside a softening of fine lines and a firmer, bouncier quality to the skin.

Still, anecdotal evidence does not cut it in today’s crowded skincare market. Therefore, SkinCeuticals continues to put its most iconic product through rigorous scientific trials.

The latest – and arguably most impressive – in vivo (tested on living human skin) clinical study, carried out on 50 participants over 20 weeks visual grading found it improves eight key signs of ageing**. These include reduction in the appearance of wrinkles by 36 percent, reduction in discolouration by 39 percent, 44 percent increase in radiance, 37 percent increase in firmness and 37 percent increase in elasticity.

Overall, it was found to visibly reverse up to ten years of ageing signs*.

Dear Reader,

Sometimes I become song obsessed. Currently it's Harry Styles' Sign of the Times which is on repeat. This beautiful ballad is heartwrenching and speaks to these current times of horrific worldly turmoil. Letting anguish latch onto something universal, like music, feels like being attached to something rather than being rudderless in a cloud of anxiety, not knowing where to anchor. Singing is a way to raise one's voice above others (so different from shouting). I hope this Easter brings songs, chocolate and a slowing down in any order (though, I have to say, have you seen the price of chocolate?). Happy Easter.

Decorate the table for Easter

Having the family round for lunch on Sunday? Ensure your home looks the part. ‘The Easter table should feel relaxed – think layered linens, fresh seasonal flowers and ceramics in spring tones,’ says Alexandra Tobler, VP and creative director of Westwing Collection. ‘I love mixing elegant tableware with one or two whimsical touches to keep the setting sophisticated yet on-trend.’ And how best to navigate the fine line between whimsy and tacky? ‘Think rabbit-shaped plates, a themed salt and pepper shaker, or a small sculptural ornament,’ suggests Rebecca Proctor, creative director at MacKenzie-Childs. ‘These thoughtful details bring charm without overwhelming the table – and, more importantly, can easily be removed. This leaves a versatile tablescape that can be enjoyed throughout spring and summer, keeping your table both festive and timeless.’ For more Easter tablescaping inspiration, see our guide here.

Read Son of Nobody by Yann Martel

When feasting and TV bingeing no longer feels satisfying over the long weekend, feed your brain and pick up the latest novel by Life of Pi author and Booker Prize winner Yann Martel. We follow Harlow Donne, an academic who has devoted his life to the classical world – and who is offered a once-in-a-lifetime chance to study an obscure collection of papyrus fragments at Oxford University. Harlow seizes the opportunity, despite it meaning he’ll have to leave his family behind in Canada, and while leafing through materials in the Bodleian Library he discovers a lost account of the Trojan War. He names the epic poem The Psoad – a nod to its protagonist, a Greek commoner identified as Psoas of Midea (known as ‘son of nobody’) who leaves his family to fight at Troy. As Harlow assembles and comments on the fragments in footnotes, he’s confronted with the parallels between the poem and his own life, and left to wade through questions of ambition, family and responsibility. Out now, bookshop.org

Recipe of the Week…

Richard Corrigan’s Lamb

Roast lamb is synonymous with Easter, but what’s the best way to cook it? Irish chef Richard Corrigan shares his go-to recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2kg/4½lb leg of lamb, on the bone

  • 1 small bunch of English lavender

  • 5 sprigs of rosemary

  • 2 cloves garlic

  • 1 small jar of honey

  • 30g salt

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6.

  2. Remove the lavender buds from the stalks and add to the honey.

  3. Pull the rosemary leaves from the stalks and place in a blender. Add the salt and blitz.

  4. Rub the lamb all over with the salt and place in a roasting tray.

  5. Cover with foil and place in the oven for 20 minutes. After which remove the foil and leave to roast for a further 40 minutes (for medium).

  6. Pour over the lavender and honey, return to the oven for a further 10 minutes.

  7. Remove the lamb and leave it to rest for 10-15 minutes, with some foil on top to keep it warm.

  8. Serve with the pan juices and spring vegetables.

Watch the Boat Race

It was in 1829 that a Cambridge student first challenged an Oxford student to a rowing race at Henley-on-Thames. Attracting over 20,000 spectators, the Oxford-Cambridge boat race is now an annual tradition between the rival universities. Whether you’ll be cheering on the dark blues (Oxford), light blues (Cambridge) or simply enjoying the match free from affiliation, race day promises plenty of opportunity for pints, Pimms and riverside views. The coverage is streamed on Channel 4, but it’s much more fun to cheer on the crews in person. Alongside the en-route bridges and embankments, the Fulham fan zone at Bishop’s Park and Hammersmith fan zone at Furnivall Gardens are favourites among supporters – or step it up a notch by enjoying the hospitality offerings at The Blues’ Club at Fulham Pier or The Presidents’ Club at Thames Rowing Club. Prefer to watch from the pub? The Duke’s Head, Sam’s Riverside terrace, and The Rutland Arms make for perfect viewing. Discover our full guide here.

Go to a tulip festival

Each spring, fields, palace gardens and castle grounds across the UK erupt into colour as tulips burst into bloom. For a few fleeting weeks the landscape looks more like the Netherlands than the English countryside thanks to these spring blooms: think rows of crimson, apricot, violet and butter-yellow petals stretching as far as the eye can see. If scale is what you’re after, Tulleys in Sussex delivers in abundance. Best known for its annual pumpkin patch, the farm’s spring festival involves planting roughly 1.5 million tulips across more than 100 varieties. Kicking off today, visitors can wander through the vibrant tapestry of fields striped with bold colours, with Dutch street food fuelling your tranquil strolls. Once the sun has set, a light-up tulip-themed trail fills the woods. Until 26 April 2026, tulipfarm.co.uk

Try a chocolate masterclass

Instead of (or as well as) scoffing Easter chocolate this spring, why not try your hand at making a luxury version? Head to Melt in Notting Hill for a 1.5-hour masterclass in creating the perfect, milky-smooth bar. Sessions are available for ages 14 and up, beginning with learning – and tasting – how chocolate has evolved through the centuries. Participants will then craft their own creations, all the way from sorting and roasting cacao beans to coaxing bars out of their molds. Find more family-friendly weekend ideas here.

Paper The Walls Black

Now, we know what you’re thinking. Black? On the walls? It might seem a little dramatic (and, at times, scary), but trust us – you won’t find a chicer choice when it comes to wallpaper. ‘Black wallpapers add drama and sophistication to a scheme,’ agrees Chloe Vince, senior decorating consultant at House of Hackney. ‘They’re made for creating intimate spaces, since black absorbs light rather than reflects it.’ She adds that black is perfect for helping other colours in your scheme pop, letting them appear bolder and brighter. ‘For a twist on a classic, opt for florals painted against a backdrop of soft black accented with rich tones of mocha, chocolate and pinky browns,’ she recommends. ‘It’s a great choice for those wanting to achieve a timeless scheme.’ However you choose to decorate your walls – thick black stripes, contrasting florals, monochromatic murals or something else entirely – be prepared with our edit of the most beautiful black wallpapers.

Have A Seasonal Fish Supper

April’s arrival promises warmer weather – and waters. Nick Marsden, head chef at Chelsea’s The Sea, The Sea, says it’s finally seasonal to eat wild seabass. ‘Fishing for wild seabass is prohibited until the end of March,’ he explains, ‘which allows spawning and stocks to recover. But with spring, they’re back on the menu, offering beautifully clean, delicate flesh and a true taste of British waters.’ He suggests that now is also the perfect time to eat native lobsters, as ‘by summer, it’s molting season, so shells soften and the meat quality dips.’ If you’re looking to source an underutilised fruit de mer this month, his pick is cuttlefish, ‘which is half the price of squid, but meatier and more intense.’ This said, he recommends avoiding a hot and quick cook; the mollusc is better used in braises and long cooks due to its unforgiving nature.

Join One Of London’s Best Members’ Clubs

The hype around private members’ clubs in London shows no sign of slowing, says Dylan Jones in our latest issue. ‘While Londoners like to proclaim their adherence to tolerance, community and inclusivity, there does seem to be a lot of us who get rather excited when someone brings out a velvet rope,’ he writes. But which ones are worth signing up to in 2026? Dylan’s favourites include Soho Mews House: ‘the most difficult Soho House to get into (it’s in Mayfair, if you can find it), and consequently the most exclusive.’ He’s also a fan of Home House, which has one of the best gyms in the capital (plus a reputation for wild parties); The Roof Gardens (it ‘made Kensington cool again’); and The House of Koko in Camden, with its restaurants, roof terraces, speakeasy and secret gigs. Dylan also plans to sign up to Town Hall Society, which he recently had a look around. ‘It’s sensational – like walking into a New York loft in the 1980s, complete with grand windows and hyper-urban views (in this case, Euston Road),’ he says. ‘Because I like anything new and particular, I will undoubtedly join up and enjoy sipping negronis as I look over at the Google building and wonder what it is those people do all day. But, like every other member, I will be enjoying the fact that a lot of other people can’t get in.’

The gripping show has developed a cult fanbase in the US since debuting in 2025, and all 15 episodes of the first season are now available to stream on this side of the pond through HBO Max. At the centre is Dr Michael ‘Robby’ Robinavitch (played by Noah Wyle), who rose to fame for his role as junior doctor John Carter in ER. In The Pitt, he plays the traumatised yet empathetic senior attending physician at The Pitt – his nickname for the under-resourced department where doctors and nurses are pushed to their limits as they deal with the fallout from festival shootings, a measles outbreak and fentanyl overdoses. Stream now on HBO Max.

Watch Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole

If you love Nordic Noir classics like The Bridge and The Killing, we’ve got another binge-worthy show to add to your watchlist: Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole. Dropping on Netflix today, the series is adapted from the bestselling Harry Hole book series written by the eponymous Norwegian writer Jo Nesbø – one of the most prolific crime novelists of our time. An adaptation of Nesbø’s fifth book The Devil’s Star, the series follows brilliant but tormented Oslo homicide detective Harry Hole (Tobias Santelmann) on his hunt for a serial killer. At the same time, Harry is on a mission to prove that fellow detective Tom Waaler (Joel Kinnaman) – who is also put on the case – is actually corrupt and involved in serious crimes. The series becomes both a whodunnit and a moral battle between the two officers: think Line of Duty crossed with Luther. Can Harry succeed in both finding the murderer and bringing his nemesis to justice? Out now, Netflix

Get In Line For Agora

It’s no secret that Brits love a queue. But queueing for your supper feels like a totally different matter. The strange phenomenon of lining up in hopes of securing a hot table has been well-documented by newspapers, but it can rarely feel worth it. The one exception to make? Agora, the casual answer to its fine-dining sister restaurant, OMA. While OMA bagged itself a Michelin star, souvla bar Agora sports a Bib Gourmand, and, last year, TopJaw named it among the most ‘outrageous value’ menus in London. C&TH reported from the queue, which stretched a mean 90 minutes on a grey March Thursday – was it worth the hype? We think so – a dinner for two tallies to roughly £100 – but only if you're willing to sacrifice a hungry portion of your evening.

Fibremaxxing may have been a fleeting social media trend, but it helped get a key nutrient into the limelight: the oft-forgotten fibre. Over the past couple of years, there has been a lot of buzz around fibre – a term which describes carbohydrates found naturally in plants. Also known as roughage, the nutrient has been found to significantly reduce the risk of certain diseases – as well as being crucial for good gut health. Yet according to the National Diet and Nutrition Survey (NDNS), more than 90 percent of adults aren’t getting enough. That’s why nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert decided to dedicate a book to the nutrient, The Fibre Formula. It includes a whole host of fibre-rich recipes – and we’ve picked our favourite below (plus find more here).

Green Butterbean Mac & Fibre Cheese

Ingredients

Serves 4

Nutritional info per serving

  • Fibre 18g

  • Protein 34g

  • Plant Points 4.75

Ingredients:

  • 150g (5 1⁄2oz) cavolo nero, kale, or spinach, stems removed as necessary

  • 300g (10 1⁄2oz) whole-wheat macaroni

  • 2 tbsp olive or rapeseed oil

  • 1 large leek, sliced

  • 2 garlic cloves, sliced

  • 2 x 400g (14oz) cans butter (lima) beans

  • 1⁄4 nutmeg, grated

  • 150g (5 1⁄2oz) Cheddar, Red Leicester, Gouda, and/or Gruyère (ideally a mixture), grated (shredded)

  • 75g (2 1⁄2oz) Parmesan (or vegan substitute), grated

  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method

  1. Bring a pan of salted water to the boil and cook the green leaves for 5–6 minutes until tender. Scoop them out of the water into a large blender.

  2. Add the macaroni to the boiling water and cook according to the packet instructions until al dente. Drain, reserving a cupful of the cooking water.

  3. While the pasta is cooking, warm the oil in a pan over a medium heat and fry the leek and garlic for 5–7 minutes, until softened and beginning to colour.

  4. Reserve 120g (4 1⁄4oz) of the beans, then transfer the rest, including their liquid, to the blender with the greens. Add the nutmeg and plenty of salt and pepper and blitz until you have a completely smooth, vibrant green sauce. Pour the sauce into a baking dish.

  5. Heat your grill (broiler) to medium. Combine the Cheddar and/or other cheeses with the Parmesan and set aside. Stir the drained pasta into the baking dish along with all but 2 big handfuls of the mixed cheeses. Tip in the reserved beans and the cooked leek and garlic mixture, then stir well to combine, adding a few splashes of cooking water until the mixture reaches your desired consistency. Scatter over the reserved cheese mixture.

  6. While the mixture is still hot, place the dish under the grill for 4–6 minutes, until the cheese is melted and delicious and the sauce is bubbling.

Cut Your Plastic Intake

We all know plastic is damaging the planet: polluting our oceans, harming ecosystems and killing marine life. But it’s also increasingly making its way into our bodies, and while research is still in its infancy, it’s thought the chemicals could be affecting human health. A new Netflix documentary, The Plastic Detox, explores the health benefits of lowering our intake – focusing in particular on how plastic consumption is impacting fertility. Directed by Louie Psihoyos and featuring scientists working in reproductive and environmental health, it follows six couples struggling with unexplained fertility challenges who embark on a three-month effort to cut plastic from their lives, as well as examining the broader impact of plastic on our health. Watched it and looking to make some changes in your own life? Start in the kitchen, says Laura Harnett, founder of eco-friendly cleaning company Seep. ‘The documentary makes a really important point about this: you can make a measurable difference without turning your life upside down,’ she notes. ‘The couples in the film did it in 90 days with targeted swaps, and the results were real.’ Her top tips include switching out non-stick pans (‘cast iron is brilliant, stainless steel works, and neither of them flakes into your scrambled eggs’) and stopping heating food in plastic (‘chemicals leach even without heat… glass containers are an easy, lasting swap). We’ve got lots more suggestions here.

Try A Reiki Facial With Justine Masters

Suffering from stressed skin? Justine Masters’ Rebalance Reiki Crystal Facial is not your average facial; it’s part skin therapy, part existential shake-up, and if you’re sceptical of the woo-woo, the results might just surprise you. A former fashion stylist turned holistic facialist, Justine works with peri‑menopausal and hormonal skin, blending barrier-repair skincare with tech-forward touches (such as the Hyper Plasma Fusion Go) to calm inflammation, dial down cortisol and rejuvenate skin from the inside out. Half hands-on facial, half crystal-and-Reiki immersion, once skin has been treated, individually chosen crystals are placed on face and body, an intention is set, and the Reiki begins. You’ll leave with a brighter complexion, a list of practical lifestyle improvements and possibly even an existential shift. Justine cites her clients’ experiences as ‘profound’; read our full review of the experience to see if we agree.

Whatever You Do, Don’t

Throw out your old clothes (unless they’re being rehomed or going to a charity shop, of course). We all know trends come back around, but now researchers from Northwestern University have found mathematical backing for the age-old rule that clothing comes back into fashion every 20 years – hence the revival of things like capri pants and ballet flats, which were big in 2006.
