Congratulations to Dre Hill and Jana-Lee Germaine, this year’s Playa Flamingo Writing Residency winners. Now in its fourth year as of 2026, the residency continues to thrive - and applications for 2027 are officially open!

Dre Hill

An artist, storyteller, educator, and apple juice enthusiast from Fort Worth, TX. He is affectionately known online as the author of your favorite poetry collection that you haven’t read yet.

His work focuses on weaving identity, specifically Blackness, through the lenses of both the mundane and the extraordinary.

Hill is the author of multiple poetry collections, including Crossroads, the multi-award nominated and winning (No) I am (not) okay, and When We Feel We Exist. He is also a two-time It’s Lit! Jana-Lee Germaine

Senior Poetry Reader for Ploughshares and Social Media Marketing Manager for Presence: A Journal of Catholic Poetry.

Her poems appear in Poet Lore, New Ohio Review, NELLE, On the Seawall, and elsewhere. She’s a recipient of the St. Botolph Club Foundation Don Kissel Emerging Artist Award for Literature and the Patricia Dobler Poetry Award.

Her writing has been supported by Bread Loaf. She earned an MFA from Emerson College. She’s a member of the Board of Trustees for her local public library and can be found online at janaleegermaine.com.
