With thanks to Hannah of Get Lost Yorkshire:

Hey

I know York hardly qualifies as a “hidden gem”…
…but I think the way you visit York can be.

It’s easy to see the city as busy streets, queues outside Bettys, and crowds along the Shambles. But on a cold February morning - especially just before Valentine’s Day - it becomes something completely different.

Early light on the city walls.
A quiet wander through the Museum Gardens.
The sound of footsteps echoing through cobbled streets before the shops open.

York is at its most magical in the small moments you almost miss.

One of my favourite things to do is arrive early and walk the streets before 9am. The Shambles, usually packed, becomes almost silent, and it feels like you’ve stepped into another century. Even the Minster feels calmer, and tucked-away places like Treasurer’s House or the riverside paths suddenly feel surprisingly peaceful.

I’ve put together a guide to help you plan a romantic day (or weekend) that feels less like a tourist visit and more like discovering your own version of York.

Inside the guide you’ll find:

  • quiet walks and viewpoints most visitors rush past
  • cosy experiences perfect for February weather
  • romantic places to eat and stay
  • and a few ideas just outside the city that many people never consider

👉 Read the full guide here: https://getlost.blog/romantic-things-to-do-in-york/

Whether you’re planning Valentine’s Day, a date day, or just an excuse for a winter wander, York is one of those places that always feels a little bit special.

And if you do go… let me know what you discover. Sometimes the best memories are the unplanned ones.

Until our next adventure,
