Cleckheaton Writers Group (CWG) met on Monday 9 February 2026 at 5.30-7pm at Cleckheaton Library with Dave, Paul, Karen and Kathy in attendance, Elliot and Reuben having passed on their apologies.
The minutes from the last meeting were passed.
WIP updates: Karen has written half a chapter of her current WIP and entered #QuestPit. Paul has been working on a non-fiction book and has spoken to someone involved in the Enfield Poltergeist at the time who is well know in paranormal research. He got some good anecdotes from things that happened at the time and he is now moving toward the end game, so starting to look at agents online e.g. Reedsy, W&A Yearbook, Jericho, to send to. CWG members discussed the ASSAP Founder, and the fact that the Conjuring 2 is based on Enfield (Prime have a week free for Apple if people would like to watch it). Dave has written some short stories and poetry, plus finished his short story collection Listening to Frogs, with 23 stories in total.
Events: Write Across Bradford will be launched next week, Boldwood Books are currently open for submissions and Karen informed members about an agent who is open to submissions too. Also upcoming is #CuPit.
Writing challenge: The February theme was decided as Love or Unsettled.
A discussion on psychics, including Sylvia Brown - psychic pets USA, the Cleveland Kidnapper case.
Writing intentions: Kathy will work on book puppet which is like a comedy script and perhaps the 12 dates of Chris Moss. Paul will be looking at the Cambridge Archives for historical psychical files for subs and reports. Karen hopes to take part in #CuPit and write/sub some more. Dave wants to complete 2 short stories and finish his review of Listening to Frogs, and perhaps maybe a poem.
Feedback: Dave shared two short poems and a short story entitled Let the Monk Walk on. They were well received. Karen shared a section of a chapter of her current WIP but sadly ran out of time to receive feedback.
Next meeting: 23 February 5.30-7pm. New members always welcome.
