This time we bring you acclaimed singer/songwriter Boo Hewerdine and Scottish folk singer Yvonne Lyons, with their new show, Things Found in Books.

Notes, photographs, old receipts, letters, postcards and fragments of people’s lives had been collected and kept on the board on the wall among the bookshelves.

Forming an inimitable songwriting partnership, Yvonne and Boo weave these ephemeral stories with their own, creating an album full of nostalgia and beauty, hope and longing.

Boo's event is part of a series of events to mark National Storytelling Week and the National Year of Reading.

The event is pay as you feel and will be held at Keighley Library on Weds February 4 at 7.30pm. Tickets here; https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/bradfordlibraries/t-glaeyxv

Your monthly round-up of the best of our Magazine

January 2026

Happy New Year! How’re the resolutions going? Sadly, The Tonic can’t help you to keep up the exercise regime, nor keep away from the booze, but if your ‘new year, new you’ routine involves reading even more fascinating articles about the arts, well, are you ever in luck.

The kids may’ve only just been packed off back to school, but like them we’re already looking forward to half-term and the return of our Imagine festival to which four of this month’s pieces are related. Illustrator Liz Pichon discusses the ‘joyous’ Quentin Blake, author Ella McLeod shares her creative process, Jessie Maryon Davies, Andy Day and Supriya Nagarajan tell us about creating music for children, and we’ve an introduction to innovative circus company Upswing.

Beyond Imagine, we’ve a trio of features for music lovers as pianist Alexandra Dariescu shares a playlist of female composers, we look back at live albums recorded in our Royal Festival Hall, and we delve deeper into Igor Stravinsky’s breakout work. And if that wasn’t enough, this month’s video inclusion is an exclusive interview with world-renowned performance artist Marina Abramović. Yes, you’re right, we are spoiling you.

The Easiest Resolution to Keep

Hi,

Every January, we set ourselves the same intentions: to do more of what we love and make time for what truly matters. Travelling often tops many lists, but it’s also one of the easiest resolutions to let slip. Here’s a simple way to make sure it doesn’t: book the trip.

Putting a journey in the calendar turns a wish into a plan. It gives you something to look forward to, something to build your year around, and a promise to yourself that this is the year you’ll explore more, slow down more and experience something new.

With thoughtfully designed itineraries, expert guides, and every detail taken care of, all that’s left for you to do is enjoy the journey. From the moment you book, your resolution is already in motion.

So if travelling more is on your list this year, take the easiest first step. Book the trip and let the adventure begin.

Holocaust Centre North is more than a museum. We are a place where local stories help tell a global history — of the Holocaust, of survival, of rebuilding. We are also a growing community rooted in care, learning, and hope.

ake a look below to see what’s on, explore our collections online, or find ways to get even more from your visit.

Dates for your diary

From thought-provoking talks and events to our permanent exhibition, archive service and workshops with award-winning artists and sector-defining researchers, there is a lot to see and do at Holocaust Centre North. Follow the link below to find out more.

Planning your visit

Get all the information you need to plan your visit in advance, including highlights at the Holocaust Centre North and where to head next for a day in West Yorkshire.

Discover us from home

Explore Holocaust Centre North from the comfort of your sofa. From images and stories, to audio extracts, uncover our history and unique collections at home. You can even listen to our Encountering Survival, our audioguide to our exhibition and community, focusing on things that have been lost, stolen, destroyed or that don't take archivable form.

A thousand kisses

This image is a letter from our Archive. The letter is written at the back of the last photo Hilel sent to his family before he was murdered by the Nazis. It ends with the heartbreaking words 'a thousand kisses.'

You can help us preserve this and other collections and ensure that none of them are forgotten. We wouldn't be able to do this without your support.

Can you gift us £5 to safeguard survivors' family papers like this one?

Gift a collection

Holocaust Centre North has a growing collection of original Holocaust-era archive material, photographs and objects donated by survivors and their families. We collect original material relating to the lives of refugees and survivors of the Holocaust who made their homes in the north of England. We aim to preserve this material for the future and make it available for education and research. Contact us if you have a collection that you would be interested in donating to us.

We can't live in a world where the Holocaust is forgotten. Can you?

Please help us ensure that memory is not lost and that the stories of our community of survivors are kept alive –– now, and in generations to come. Your help makes this happen: you make this happen.

Hey

Happy New Year! 🎉

I hope 2026 has got off to a great start for you.

There’s something about the beginning of a new year that makes me want to shake things up a little. To try something new, explore somewhere familiar in a different way, and finally say yes to experiences I’ve been bookmarking “for someday”.

So to kick off 2026, I’ve put together a brand new guide that feels like the perfect place to start.

I’ve rounded up 13 unique experiences to try in Yorkshire in 2026 - from hidden walking tours and hands-on workshops to scenic cruises, foodie adventures, and unforgettable day trips. These are experiences I’ve personally tried myself, and every single one offers a fresh way to discover Yorkshire beyond the usual days out.

Whether you’re:

  • looking for inspiration for weekends this year
  • planning a special trip
  • or just fancy trying something a bit different in 2026

…I think you’ll love this one.

👉 Read the full guide here: https://getlost.blog/experiences-in-yorkshire/

My hope is that this list inspires you to pick just one experience to book and look forward to this year, because sometimes the best memories are made closer to home than we expect.

Here’s to a year of discovering new hidden gems, trying something unexpected, and falling in love with Yorkshire all over again 💙

Until our next adventure,

P.S. If you’d like a handy way to plan your year, I’ve also created a free downloadable checklist to go with the guide. It includes direct booking links, an app-only discount, and a simple tick-off list so you can track the experiences you complete throughout 2026. You’ll find it linked in the post!

Dripping in equal measures with heartfelt earnestness, sharp irony, and humour that bubbles up in the place between youthful confidence and pubescent self-doubt, Hasbian delves behind the rollercoaster of teenage life, into the reality of growing up queer in Brighton under Section 28.
