Who Planted Trees’ is our environmentally-themed project,
which includes a reimagining of Jean Giono’s short story for
the stage. From community performances to workshops and events,
there's something for everyone.

BIG MAKE: GIANT PUPPET WORKSHOPS

Puppet artists Alison Duddle and Jonny Quick are making a giant
puppet as part of our production and community event 'The Man Who
Planted Trees'.
Come and take part in our taster sessions as we create different
parts of the puppet. We will discuss the process of designing and
creating the puppet - working with clay, paper mache and wood. Some
power tools will be involved in woodwork, and people can choose
which areas they would prefer to be part of, as there will be a
variety of activities on offer. You can sign
up for one or more.
Please note - the puppet will not be completed in these sessions,
but will be visiting Todmorden as part of the Creative Community
Day on 1 June.

NEEDLE FELTING WORKSHOP

Join Danielle Lovett in a relaxed workshop to craft a stunning
textile landscape wall hanging for the upcoming Hebden Bridge Arts'
2024 open exhibitions! Dive into the world of dry felting
alongside fellow enthusiasts, as you each contribute to a
magnificent collaborative artwork. Select your portion of the
landscape and let your creativity flow, shaping coloured wool to
capture the essence of nature's beauty. Following the
workshop, all crafted sections will be seamlessly joined together
to form a breathtaking masterpiece.
Danielle Lovett is a local artist living in Hebden Bridge. She
works with community outreach projects and organisations teaching
the arts, screen-printing, mark making and more!

Join us for an unforgettable Walk & Draw Workshop with Paul
Knights and artist Sally Barker! Firstly we'll embark on a journey
to delve into the valley's industrial past, uncovering its profound
impact on today's landscape. Immerse yourself in the sights,
sounds, and stories of our surroundings during an engaging
walk. Gather natural materials along the way for a
one-of-a-kind art session.
Then get hands-on with drawing, painting, and printing using these
unique materials and natural inks. Infuse your artwork with
words and reflections inspired by our journey, crafting a piece
that's truly your own.
With your consent, your creation will be featured in our open art
exhibition as part of the 2024 project 'The Man Who Planted Trees.'
No art experience required.

COMMUNITY SINGING TASTER WORKSHOP

Come along to a Community Singing Taster Workshop with Musical
Director Charlie Rhodes. Taking place on Saturday 11 May, this
adult session will include singing games, rounds and simple
harmony work, as well as an introduction to 'The Man Who Planted
Trees' story. Keen singers welcome, no prior stage experience
is necessary.
Charlie Rhodes is a Calderdale based Singing Teacher, Choir Leader
and Musical Director. In addition to his work at Halifax Young
Singers, Charlie is a successful theatre Musical Director,
who’s recent credits include We Will Rock You, Legally Blonde, Elf
the Musical and Wasteland.

KIDS ILLUSTRATION WORKSHOP

years, plus parents)
Join artist and educator Jimmy Dolan as we embark on a
creative journey inspired by 'The Man Who Planted Trees' by Jean
Giono!
Listen
to the captivating story and unleash your creativity as we
collectively craft a stunning mixed-media illustration. Your
contribution will be part of an extraordinary artwork showcased in
our 'The Man Who Planted Trees' exhibitions, spanning Calderdale
from May to July.
Parents
are encouraged to participate alongside their children, and kids
should come dressed in attire suitable for getting hands-on and
messy with art.

CROMWELL BOTTOM NATURE RESERVE
GUIDED WALK
Located just off the Brighouse to Elland Road A6025
Sunday 19 May 1:00pm-3:30pm (suitable for ages 14+)
Come for a gentle, two-mile walk around Cromwell Bottom Local
Nature Reserve with guide Paul Knights. As we amble on the
accessible paths, we will consider the remarkable industrial
history of this part of the Calder Valley, and its astonishing
rejuvenation into a mosaic of woodland, wetland and meadow that has
become the wildlife jewel in the borough's crown. We will see how a
site once so used and abused can, with the dedication of those who
care, be transformed into a thriving haven for birds and bats and
bees, and also for people.
Paul Knights is a writer, landscape photographer and guided walk
leader exploring the narratives embodied in rural landscapes. He
brings 25 years of environmental experience – from practical work
in nature conservation and in agriculture, to academic research,
teaching and public engagement – to facilitating understanding
of landscape, place and nature.

welcome! Exhibition dates: May-July. Submit for free by
