No January Blues @ Seven

On Thursday 12 January, 8pm, Smoke Tree Theatre presents The Cleverest Thief. Poignant and humorous, this fictional account Alzheimers Disease realistically portrays the challenge to Florence and her family as she gradually sees her memories jumbled and stolen by The Cleverest Thief. £8 adv / £10 otd.  

Next week, Monday 16 January, 8pm, the Screen Seven movie is  Disorder. Vincent, a troubled Afghanistan veteran, becomes bodyguard to the wife and young son of a wealthy Lebanese businessman at their luxurious villa on the French Riviera. Trapped in a perpetual mental warzone, the unstable Vincent must determine which dangers to the family are real and which are the product of his paranoia. £6 / £5 conc. 

On Tuesday 17 Tuesday, 8pm, Café Scientifique - Soil Sustainability and Food Security, introduced by Dr Jill Edmondson of Sheffield University. One of the greatest challenges now facing humanity is to improve the sustainability of agriculture and reduce its environmental impact, whilst also meeting the food demands of the growing global population. Hat donations.

A topical subject for January, Depression – We Need To Talk About It, is on Wednesday 18 January, 8pm. A short introductory talk by Tony Frais, author of ‘Coping with Depression for Carers’, is followed by an open discussion to give those who are suffering depression or have suffered from depression and their carers an opportunity to discuss the effects of depression. £5.

Look out for the first Seven Jazz Leeds concert of 2017, on Thursday 19 January, 8pm, Jim Hart’s Cloudmakers Trio ‘Five’. Playing all new music, Cloudmakers is a new project which features special guests Antonin-Tri Hoang on Alto sax and Clarinet and Hannes Reipler on Guitar. With support from the Jean Watson Sextet. £16 /£14 conc. Doors  7.30pm.

On Saturday 21 January, 8.30pm, a real treat to round off the week Tumbleweed Americana – The Cactus Blossoms. Out of repertoire of original songs and gut wrenching, tongue-in-cheek heartbreakers, 30 years older than the band, You’re Dreaming, is the culmination of several years of song-writing. £11 adv /£13 otd. Drs 8pm.
