Harrogate International Festivals 26 January, 9 March, 27 April and more

Coming to Harrogate in 2017

Berwins Salon North Returns in 2017!

Ever since Harrogate International Festivals brought London’s most talked about evening to the town, it’s been a sell-out sensation.

Berwins SALON North is a revolutionary movement for the heart and mind. The SALON events consist of a night of the most stimulating ideas in art, science and psychology designed to change your life for the better.

A TED-style evening, each featuring three fascinating expert speakers, each given 30 minutes to engage the audience with their subject, interspersed with intervals allowing time for a well-crafted gin and tonic.

Expect the remarkable...

Sharing

26 January | 7.30pm | The Crown Hotel, Harrogate

Join three expert speakers for three inspiring TED-style talks on the theme of ‘Sharing’, the first in our ‘Sharing, Caring, Daring’ series, interspersed with intervals allowing time for a well-crafted G&T! Expect the remarkable!
Dr Julian Baggini will share with us what Eastern Mysticism and Jazz can teach us about life, exploring the relationship between process, spontaneity and philosophy.

Actor Matt Bannister, from RADA in Business and with ex-clients including IBM and Innocent, will deliver an exclusive interactive session on storytelling, helping you to unlock your creativity and potential.

Creative Catalyst Jamie Catto (founding member of dance mega-group Faithless) will divulge the findings from his new book ‘Insanely Gifted’, teaching you how to turn your demons into creative rocket fuel!

Caring

9 March | 7.30pm | The Crown Hotel, Harrogate

Berwins Salon North are delighted to welcome Star of science on screen, Dr Adam Rutherford, who will take us on a tour of the landscape of genetics, exploring the collective memory of the human race.

Sarah Corbett, founder of the Craftivist Collective, will tell us how and why we might need our creative and craft skills in the future and how we go about developing them.

Prof. Stephen Joseph will share research from his new book ‘Authentic’, a fresh and compelling perspective on the psychology of authenticism, proving it is this that leads us all to true happiness. Listen up!

Daring

27 April | 7.30pm | The Crown Hotel, Harrogate

Raoul Martinez, writer, artist, and award-winning filmmaker, will share the findings from his ground-breaking first book Creating Freedom.

Transhumanism is a subject that divides many; Prof. Steve Fuller will be on hand to explore the big question - can we really afford to live forever?

Musician Dave Randall (who has worked with the likes of Sinead O'Connor and Dido) will look at how throughout the ages, music has been used to unsettle the most fundamental political and social conventions – and to prop up the status-quo!
